I don't know if you guys subscribe to the email updates from the Everton site, but I always get a kick out of reading Davey's monthly message. Thought I'd share.
Hello everyone (everyone, in this case, means Sara),
January 2005 will go down as one of the busiest months of my football career!
We have signed new players, we have lost a couple and we've also had the matter of six first-team matches, including two in the FA Cup.
With regard to our position in the Premiership table, we are still in the top four, where we have been since September and I'm sure that every Evertonian would have gladly taken that at the start of the season.
However, all we've done at this stage is prove an awful lot of so-called experts wrong. We haven't actually achieved anything yet and that's why you won't find me, or anyone else at the training ground, getting carried away.
Plaudits and positive headlines are nice to receive but we'll be playing everything with a straight bat until we've got something tangible to shout about.
We brought James Beattie on board at the beginning of the month and he is already showing everyone why he has been such a regular goalscorer in the Premiership in recent seasons. He opened his account in the FA Cup tie against Sunderland and if he keeps getting into good positions there will be more to follow, I'm sure.
We also welcomed Mikel Arteta to Everton, on-loan from Real Sociedad. Mikel was very popular during his spell at Glasgow Rangers and his time here gives us all a chance to have a look at him. We're looking forward to having him because he meets all the criteria I am looking for in players.
For different reasons, we lost Kevin Campbell and Thomas Gravesen and we wish them both well.
However, I prefer to speak about the players we have got here and I'm sure you will all agree that they have all done fantastically well this season.
There is still some way to go yet but Evertonians are once again feeling proud about their football club and that's something we want to continue to the end of the season and beyond.
All the best,
David Moyes
