Well, since Cleveland MLS seems off the radar.....

The Tribe have made some interesting acquisitions. Do you think Millwood & Gonzalez will put the Indians in the playoffs again? Who starts in the outfield?

Is it guaranteed that the Browns get the Pats Defensive Coordinator? Where are they picking in the draft?

Where will the Cavs finish this year? Can they contend for a championship?

Not w/o Lebron. Of course, the entire Atlantic Division should be prohibited from the playoffs. That would help.

The Internationals appear ready for a second season, but Cleveland might be losing the faux Barons. PD ran something a week or so ago re SJ Sharks checking out the arena in Dubuque or Council Bluffs or some such outpost for next season.

The real Barons (AHL 1930s-72), like the Stokers, died, never to return. The NHL team was an embarassment to the name. It's a whole different world today. No longer a discernable hockey heritage. Don't think more than the 3000 faithful will ever notice next year. Same might be said for the faux Force. Maybe they could both survive at USA Skateland. :D

Crennel will be the first offered the Brown's head coaching position.

The Cavs will go into the playoffs the third seed if Lebron, Z or Jeff McInnes don't miss many games. And they will need all three. If one goes down, they are f-ed.

MLS soccer is dead in Cleveland. That hurts to type.

Baseball. Well, we have a decent team and we are in a superweak division. We may go to the playoffs. Depends on some intangibles though.

Go Inter.

I also saw a few stories/rumors about the Barons possibly moving....to a couple destinations....chiefly Peoria or Quad City.
Here's one link off hand:

While this is mostly about the Barons too, there's some Cavs/Gund Arena stuff at the bottom I didn't know. I've been a little out of the loop this year though....

Upon relocating to Cleveland from Kentucky in 2001, the Barons signed a five-year lease to play in Gund Arena. Gund Arena's operations are on the verge of being turned over to Dan Gilbert, whose purchase of the Cavaliers is pending NBA approval. A Gilbert associate said Tuesday that Gilbert's focus is on closing the Cavaliers' deal.
One other thing...someone mentioned to me that the AFL was looking at Cleveland.
Anyone hear anything of substance on that?
I suppose it would be quite easy if the Barons leave.

Agreed on injuries part....It's been nice to see Z healthy for a couple years now. I was hoping to see the rook Luke Jackson help out this year. Injuries bit him.
As for their seeding...the one almost sure thing is they won't be third. The Atlantic Division is HORRIBLE (Knicks, Nets, Celtics, 76ers, Raptors).
Right now, their division leader is actually under .500 and 7th in the conference but gets the 3rd seed as a division winner. They would be lucky to get 2 in.
Cleveland will probably be 2nd behind Miami if they win the division.
If not, 4th, 5th, or lower.
It'll be tough to edge out the Pistons, although I think they can do it. But that may just be bias.
2 of those 3 teams will be in the East Finals.
Wild cards IMO: Pacers, Magic, Wizards

Also speaking of the Cavs, what do you think of Pavlovic? I like his game, it's just unpolished and unadjusted to the NBA yet. He may be a good player in a year or two.

Wow, was I off on the Cavs...what a pathetic 2nd half collapse.
Wonder if Z will be re-signed this offseason.
Hell, for that matter, the whole roster, including their draft picks.

Pleased with the pick of Braylon Edwards for the Browns
Antonio Perkins may turn out to be a steal from day 2.
And hopefully the former Akron QB Frye, 3rd round, turns out to be good.
Cleveland needs the help there, with Dilfer as a stopgap.
Have to see on the rest of the draft this year....
re: Kellen Winslow with the motorcycle accident....
Cleveland Browns TE Kellen Winslow was injured in a motorcycle accident Sunday in the Cleveland area.

Winslow has sustained some internal injuries, which are stable. There is also swelling in his right shoulder and knee. The extent of these injuries will not be known until further medical evaluation is completed after the swelling is reduced.

Winslow will remain at the Cleveland Clinic overnight. No timetable for his release has been determined.

I'll see the Cleveland Indians in Texas vs the Rangers this weekend...
Off to a below average start @ 10-15...
here's hoping they turn it around. They are probably the Cleveland sports team I have the most love for.
They need the pitching to come around a little, especially someone like Millwood. I still don't know how the offense will be this year.

Well, polishing this off, as the NBA free agents start signing at the end of this week.
Supposedly Z still, Hughes, & Donyell Marshall are Cavs, but you never know till it is official....
Gotta get a point guard.

Not exactly Cleveland but the CBJ can start signing players this week too, and have the 6th pick in the entry draft. Exciting team with Nash, Zherdev, Klesla, Picard, and youngsters like Johnson, Pinneault, and the Ohioan Fritsche up and coming...
And at least the Barons didn't move this year. We'll see how much of a comeback hockey makes.

Braylon Edwards is a stud, but as for the rest of the Browns, I figured I'd catch up on them in a few weeks....Anything else interesting there? I've not had cable this summer, so (thankfully?) I've generally gotten to miss NFL-all-the-time ESPN for a while.

The Indians were doing great until the end of June. Do they have any shot left? They're only 3.5 out, but they need to start playing better again.

In a month I'll get a C-Band satellite or Dish Network again with an Ohio addy and get back on track ;)

Well, as of now, the Indians choked (but put up a valiant run), the Browns suck, and we'll see if the Cavs roster change brings results (I'm very high on them this year).

BTW, does anyone know off hand the situation on the Barons?
Does Gund still own them and the Sharks?
If not, when is their affiliation up?
I've heard rumors of Cincy restarting and becoming the CBJ's AHL affiliate (which, although they've been an asset, is better than Syracuse) next year. They already have Dayton in the ECHL. There's been a couple talents from northern Ohio in the past couple years, and I think CBJ has a couple in Syracuse right now IIRC. Good for hockey in Ohio with an CBJ affiliate in Cincy or Cleveland.

Any predictions on game 7?

I personally thought before the series that the Cavs would be out in about 6, but I've been proven happily wrong.

edit: I see this was one of the threads that hadn't made it back to the Cleveland forum, can mods throw it back there? Thanks.

Well in light of this year (with a couple questions), this deserves a bump.....

The Indians are in first place in the AL.....
Can they keep their place in the AL Central for the year?

The Browns get both Thomas and Quinn in the draft....
Is this the draft that finally turns us around?
Was the price to high for Quinn?

The Cavs sweep a series for the first time ever....
How far are they going in the playoffs?

it's a nice feeling..... :)

I'm going to keep this going, as I'm a fan of all Cleveland sports.

First time in the NBA finals.

And the multi-sport smackdown of Detroit was pretty nice ;)

Let's not dampen the mood with Quinn though.

Go Cavs.

I knew the Cleveland Pipers (partly from before but furthered from your mentions in here ;) ), and had to find the other one....Cleveland Rosenblums of the ABL in the 20s/30s.

I like the idea of this to the thread....

I'll go with a two part question that is pretty easy:

What is the name of the new Cleveland American Hockey League franchise, and who is it affiliated with?

Isn't it the Lake Erie Monsters... affiliated with the Colorado Avalanche???

Yep, told you it was easy.

Your turn?
Actually, here's another relatively easy one:

What was the name of the Cleveland Arena Football franchise?

Thunderbolts, no?

Who scored the Brown's 1st touchdown against the Broncos in the AFC Championship game famed for "The Drive"???

Well, the Cavs did the same thing they did in the Pistons series and didn't show up in the 3rd quarter and beginning of the fourth, falling down by 18. Nice attempt at a comeback, but that was way too much of a deficit.

1) Daniel Gibson has to play more. (Hughes has to heal a bit)
2) They have to adjust for the defense on LeBron
3) To have any chance of winning, they are going to have to steal one in SA.

Thunderbolts, no?

Who scored the Brown's 1st touchdown against the Broncos in the AFC Championship game famed for "The Drive"???
Kosar -> Fontenot

Where did the last incarnation of the AHL Cleveland Barons move from and move to?

From San Francisco to Minnesota, I think.

Of course, that wasn't the last incarnation of the Barons. I think they had a recent stint in the AHL as the affiliate to the Sharks.

I believe the last incarnation of the Barons originally were the Kentucky Thoroghblades. Doesn't matter to me where they went.;)

BTW, Re: Cleveland Rosenblums: The Rosenblum men's apparel store (an early 20th century version of Brooks Brothers in downtown Cleveland) also sponsored successful semi-pro baseball and soccer teams before WW II. Max Rosenblum was considered the Father of Cleveland sandlot (amateur) baseball, sponsoring numerous boys/girls/grownup teams and leagues from the 1920s thru the '50s.

Not to be confused with Max Rosenbloom, the prizefighter.

Historical note: The Rosenblum soccer team was part of a soccer doubleheader that took place at the then-new Municipal Stadium during Labor Day weekend, 1931... before the Indians or the NFL ever set foot in it.

FWIW: I see where Jackson is tossing $5 mil into a League Park renovation project, returning it to its original field dimensions and adding a 2500 grandstand. It'll reportedly total 8.5 mil (which probably means 10-12 mil).

Have yet to find evidence that soccer was ever played at League Park. It's rectangular shape would seem to lend itself to soccer (grid teams prior to the Browns used it). Can't imagine it wasn't at some point, but Cleveland once had a number of dedicated soccer fields/stadiums during the League Park era and shortly afterwards (Tremont, Shamrock, Mohican, Slavia...)
