Tough game for the reds, but except Sagnol and Gorlitz everyone is ready to keep the good home record against Leverkusen. I think it will be very tight but Bayern will win this one. Anybody with some possible lineups, comments? ;)

Bayern are going to need to bring a very tight defense. Leverkusen are on fire at the moment. It is going to be rough as Leverkusen need the points a lot more than we do.

Perfectly right, the defense must be working perfectly against this Leverkusen team, that’s why I miss Sagnol from the team. I could imagine a
Sagnol, Kovac, Lucio, Lizarazu back four for this one…..

This is on FCB webside
"On a positive note, Magath said he was confident of a return for Bixente Lizarazu. "I've spoken with him this morning, and he's feeling good," the boss reported. Lizarazu limped out of his comeback match against Hamburg after just six minutes with a torn calf muscle but is set to resume team training in midweek. Sebastian Deisler has also reported back after recovering from viral flu to play a full part in Monday's session."

Oh, how you tease me.... ;)

I must say that I am a bit concerned about our back 4 after watching the last match. Not so much because its Leverkusen, but simply because we are putting band-aids on to fix the problems. Frings needs to return to midfield. Brazzo hopefully has a better showing. Lucio and Kovac I am confident in (remember the beginning of the season when we were all talking about Kovac's departure at the winter break? Man... who are we to question, right?). We really do miss Sagnol. I don't think Liza will be 90 minutes fit... if he gets time, he will be lucky to get 45 minutes.

Concerning our attack... things seemed to be clicking best when the midfield and forward line were consistant for one half with Makaay and Pizarro up top, Frings behind them, Ze and Hargreaves wide, and Ballack behind them all. THEN, at the interval, bring on Scholl and Guerrero and possibly Schweinsteiger. This seemed to get us results with fresh legs and creativity in the 2nd half.

BMGuy was manager of the week last week when he picked the starters to absolute precision, but what the hell... I'll have another go...

................Kahn
?????...Lucio...Kovac...Brazzo
..............Ballack
Hargreaves........Ze Roberto
..............Frings
.......Pizarro......Makaay

At the half,
Guerrero in = Pizarro out (Zickler is the other option here)
Scholl in = Ze Roberto out
Scweinsteiger in = ??????

True. Lets hope our best, healthiest four are good to go.

Leverkusen are on fire at the moment.

True. But, Bochum was absolute misery last match. The third goal was pure comedy really. Last goal by Freier (assist from Landon Donovan) was brilliant.

It is going to be rough as Leverkusen need the points a lot more than we do.

True. Leverkusen are THE team to beat this half of the season. (you heard it here first..... or not)

Excellent choice... You have chosen wisely, my friend.

I think Frings is more useful in the middle and Hargreaves can adapt better at right back. The one thing I am uncertain still about is Schweinsteiger's ability to maintain consistent form over the course of say 45-90 minutes. A starter theoretically should be able to perform well into the second half if not the entire match. I just think perhaps he is a bit young still (although, very effective and maturing weekly) for the starting birth. That being said, Ze Roberto needs to step up and prove his worth this week.

yeah, i agree with you regarding schweini... but the solution to that, imo, is to bring scholl in if and when schweini starts to fade, move frings to RM, and let scholl play as the AM...

also, regarding guererro and pizarro - i think pizarro deserves more than just 45 mins on the field...

i dont like guererro coming on at half time...

unless pizarro was horribly atrocious in the 1st half, i think he should get atleast 60 mins on the field with makaay... if pizarro underperforms slightly in the 1st half, he should be given a few minutes to improve on his performance via some advice or teamtalk during the halftime break...

I guess when I said "at the break" in my mind I was thinking somewhere in the second half. So I completely agree with those assessments... especially the Guerrero bit. The Scholl-Frings-Schweini switch is a smart one. :)

in addition to all this, i think the scholl switch should be made depending on the situation only...

if we are chasing the game, or need a goal for whatever reason, and our offence is not clicking, then bring scholl on and do that re-shuffle...

if we are winning and need to defend in midfield, then i dont think scholl is the best option...

if at all we do have to change things around, then id go for bringing lizarazu on for the last 20 or so, moving brazzo to RB, and bringing a bit more bite and steel into the midfield by moving hargreaves up into the middle, and taking schweini off...

-cheers ;)

oh, btw if we are winning comfortably at any point (ie - 3-1 with 30 mins to go), instead of pizarro, take makaay off for guererro...

Why not bring Kuffour in as the right back, he's played that position before this season and did so brilliantly!

true - forgot about him :o

wouldnt say brilliantly, though - i heard he wasnt very good when he played there at the amsterdam arena?

BMGuy

yes, and the match later he wasn't good as well. Kuffour's at times a bit lazy and not concentrated :(

I'm agree with scorpio81 the formation, Scholl and deisler and lizarazu should come in on the 2nd half if Bayern need more offense forces. Scholl and Deisler should only replace for Ze roberto and Sweis, it doesn't matter if Scholl plays on the wing. Look at christian ronaldo, he's playing on RM but cover a lot of ground, left to right. For the stability and solidity in midfield and defense, the combination of Frings and Ballack is neccessary, i guess.

Looking at your teams (which I like), I noticed you all forgot to include Salihamidzic. We all know he`s crap at the moment, but there will not be a Bayern team without Salihamidzic as long as he`s fit and Magath in command. It is frustrating, but we have to come to terms with Magath`s loyalty for "his" player.
