Behold the power of................CHEESE!

Although it is interesting that the two biggest buys by Houllier were two of his worst. I think he'd be a better manager at a side like Charlton.

You mean Diouf and Heskey? (I don't know if we can include Cisse, even if that had been arranged years ahead)

I agree on Diouf, but Emile was absolutely essential in the run to the Treble. And Hamman has been essential to the team's success at 8 million.

Well, Heksey was grossly overpriced, although that was an inflated transfer market. He had one good (not great) season, but for 11M pounds that not enough return. I'm amazed he was flogged for more than half that.
No disputes with the Hamann buy; that's worked our rather well for you.

23 goals and a vital member of a three-trophy winning team in is a more than a "great season". That's a spectacular season.

The Hamann buy was good, and the transfer buys of 2001 seem to be good. If every year was like that Liverpool would be in great shape. Riise and Baros are now first team regulars. Dudek is a good first team keeper and Kirklard is a good young keeper (if he can stay healthy, IF, IF). FSM and Le Tallec were transfers aimed at the future, and both still look good. Houllier didn't follow that up to well in 2002.

Spectacular for Heskey, sure. More than great? Uh, definitely not.
I still can't believe he set up the goal to beat us last year, one which was scored by Bruno Cheyrou.

Why was Heskey bought? Did anyone really expect him to score more than 15 -20 goals in a year in all comps?

Why are we bashing on Heskey? He had a very good spell with us and there is nothing bad we can say about him. So if you trolls want to talk bad about him, take it somewhere other than the Liverpool boards.

I don't think anyone is...Nicephoras is just saying that he was overpriced when we bought him.

But I agree, he had a good spell and is a very misunderstood player.

He has great size and speed, two things that can't be taught (though killer instinct is another quality that can't be taught). He was just 21 when he came to Anfield and it wasn't too unreasonable to believe that he could grow into a special player. Unfortunately, no one could have predicted that he would peak at 22.

Though I was no fan of Heskey (10 years as a pro and still unable to control the ball - how talentless do you have to be??? :)) I thought the amount of abuse he got was absolutely disgusting.
