When it comes to the World Cup do u guys support European teams or do you Support teams from the Americas?

For example, during the last world cup final between Germany vs Brazil the vast majority of Latin Americans supported Brazil whereas, most European supporters wanted Germany to win.

For me it depends. My family is from Italy, so when Italy is playing, I root for them.

My wife's parents are from Germany, so when Germany isnot playing teh US or Italy, I root for them.

After that, I generally support CONCACAF teams (other than Mexico). I also tend to support Scotland, because when traveling in France during WC 1998, the Scots were the best guys to hang out with.

After that, it depends how I feel at the time.

Could care less. I just wanna see a good game.

But if it's Mexico, I want to see a meteor fall on the stadium.

Personally I supported Brazil that game cause I was mad at the germans. I don't support other teams like i do the US, like with other teams there are some players i'm like, "who's that?" never the case with the US. I watch other european teams and like to watch them i just don't have the same ammount of interest in them as I do with the US even though they're probably better in many cases. I watch european teams and i have my favorites but if they lose i don't really care that much.

Born in England but live in Canada.
Must admit I would cheer for a team from America over
any other team, unless it was vs England.
For last two world cups was cheering for Brazil in finals,
was unbearable watching France win but was nice to
see Germany fall.

American team, unless its Mexico. Sometimes I cheer for England or Spain because I like a particular player, or if its them v another European team.

I root for players on teams that aren't the US rather then a particular team. I also usually hope that any team that beats the us does well so the US will look stronger for having lost to the better team.

I never thought of it that way, maybe I should start hoping teams that beat us win. Too bad no one's managed to do that lately :D

Nobody in Europe save Germans and Austrians wanted Germany to win.

To answer your question personally, its not so much geography as personal connections. I have friends from France, so I will often root for France (being an Arsenal fan doesn't hurt). I dislike England, and will generally root against them. I have ancestral connections to Russia and somewhat to the Ukraine, so I will support them in games as well, tho if Putin turns Russia back into a dictatorship that will stop.

I guess I generally root for Latin American teams outside of that, but sometimes not Brazil simply because I like underdogs and that's never Brazil. Plus, I never, ever, ever, root for Mexico, and thats a rivalry thing not a racial thing.

I will cheer for anyone who is playing Mexico. Hell, I would cheer for Saudi Arabia vs. Mexico. Now that I think of it, I would cheer for the Boston Red Sox before I would cheer for Mexico. I dont really care about other teams, just what benefits the US the best, ie. in group play scenarios.

Well as everyone else has posted the US team first and foremost and whatever benefits the team. Beyond that I wanted Germany to win for the point that screcrowed made, it only helps make the USA look stronger. It also depends on my mood too. If my Cheerios weren't good that morning and the Kool-Aid didn't do the trick I could cheer for a European team.

But yes, overall it would be a team from the Americas over a European team. And that even includes Mexico, while I wear a Mexico jersey too as long as not playing the USA or hurts the USA for advancing.

If the US is not involved in a game, I go for the clear underdog if there is one. If there is no clear favorite in the game, I would go for the CONCACAF team and after that the South American team.

I root for whichever team has more sportmanship or whichever team has lesser amount of fans in my neighborhood.

I want to see a good match regardless of which team I want to win .... but after USMNT, I generally support teams from the Americas over teams from Europe (or other continents) with the exception of France where I lived for over four years.

My ancestors were English & Irish, so I'm partial to our friends in the Kingdom, but I will also cheer for the other members of our region as well. Like to see our competition have success--just as long as its at someone else's expense :)

I support the United States, and if they're not playing in a particular match, I'm neutral.

A game without the US may as well just be an exhibition, I usually don't care who wins in that situtation unless it means the US will have an almost gaurenteed win later.

My favorite teams, in order:

1. USA
2. Ireland
3. England*
4. Sweden
5. Iraq (Loved that Olympic team!)
-------------
*Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales (Okay, so I like the kick & run, smash mouth style.)

Within CONCACAF, I favor Canada and the other Anglophone countries (T&T, Jamaica, etc) over the Spanish-speakers but will support even Mexico against most outside opponents.

For whatever reason, I generally prefer African sides to Asian teams but enjoy a good SoKor or Japanese performance.

Rooted for Brazil in '02, France in '98, Brazil in '94, Germany in '90...
