ive always wondered,
can totti and del piero really co-exist in a line up together.

seems like del piero does his best work when hes running the slot position by himself, mabey because he is too similar to totti.

and whats with zambrotta, hes good, but i dont really like him.
he doesnt seem to do much accept run the flank. i dont see him working within the team.

Tommasi is there. Zambrotta has not even been starting for Juve, so it's no surprise. Not sure if it's related to his recent recovery from the injury suffered at the WC. He came on as a substitute yesterday.

As in, how seriously is he hurt? When he'll be back? What do you mean? He hasn't played for Inter in their last two games.

Totti is out through injury. No word on whether he will be replaced.

6 from AC Milan

hmmmm........ Toldo is missing. NO! That is dumb. Toldo should be #1!

Toldo is also injured. BTW, the top-ranked Italian keeper by RAI in terms of average "performance player rating" in games so far this year is .... Gianluca Pagliuca!

A link (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/internationals/2306251.stm) to the Totti injury story.

Coco is now also out of the squad - hurt while playing the Italy U-19s - and has been replaced by Salvatore Lanna of Chievo. I believe this is his first callup.

Yet another player out - Di Biagio has a "fever" and will miss the Yugoslavia game. Not sure about the Wales game.

This makes the following potential starters on the sidelines:

Toldo (although Buffon would probably have started anyway)
Materazzi
Di Biagio
Coco
Totti
Vieri

The person who started the thread mentioned Pessotto - he is still injured since before the World Cup - you can add him to the list.

Inzaghi is apparently fit to play but not at 100%. Iuliano is just getting to camp after also being ill.

What will be the starting lineup?

Here's my guess:

Buffon
Nesta
Cannavaro
Panucci
Adani
Tommasi
Doni
Gattuso
Pirlo
Del Piero
Inzaghi

Given his current form for Milan, I wonder if Maldini is reconsidering his international retirement.

I saw enough of Panucci this summer, but I guess with a couple injuries he factors in...

I do hope your correct in midfield, actually having two! creative/offensive types in there in Pirlo and Doni...

soccerfan220

That hasn't been Pirlo's role lately

SueB

As I said before when you brought that up, one can be a "creative/offensive type of player" without being in an advanced, attacking position. Pirlo is certainly NOT a defensive-minded player, no matter where you put him on the field. Some might say the same about Panucci :D

Exactly -- the fact that he and Doni would be on the field in this lineup would represent a step in the right direction...

Plus Pirlo has put up decent numbers offensively, I believe he has a goal and a couple credited assists in league play so far...from wherever he lines up...

You'r right. But about the goals, if he had one, it doesn't matter. Milan have already had 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
