Directv has made an agreement with Setanta Sports to launch The Setanta Channel in August 2005. It will broadcast several UEFA matches each gameday. Rumor is that the channel will cost $12 per month individually (not part of SPORTS Pack), though the official announcement is scheduled for July.

The concept is pretty sweet. I have directv and we get pretty sad soccer coverage. No goltv, rai, etc. I would probably shell out the $12 at times.

You're nuts. DirecTV has FSW now, is getting GolTV on 2/22 and is now getting Setanta Channel. It's a soccerlovers dream.

If I'm nuts for not keeping up with current events, than I guess I am. FSW is ok but I like Serie A, so naturally you could see DirecTv being disapointing for me. If what you say is true I shall gladly shut up and watch.

It's more than true. You can look it up in any number of threads on here! :D
Serie A is on GolTV. RAI is on most basic cable carriers (at least here it is, I think)

I'm aware of that, hopefully one day RAI will jump to directv. This does brighten my evening.
According to Goltv.tv it will be ch. 614, right after FSW. That is nice and convenient.

Write to DirecTV if you want it. They won't get it if they don't think it's wanted!

It's an American (I believe) channel devoted to Italian programming. They also show Serie A games.

Rai is Italian. Used to be owned by the state IIRC. Rai International is a channel available to Italians living oversees. I used to get it when I lived in brazil, it was on basic cable there.

RAI also shows Coppa matches and midweek Serie A matches that GOLTV does not air. Also on on Suday's RAI airs two Serie A matches... one is almost always not on eaired on GOLTV and sometimes both. This weekend's for instance. They are airing Roma v Messina and Inter v Palermo. Also, the Italian National team home matches.
RAI and TV5 (the French channel which airs Ligue 1 matches and France NT home matches) are the only two reasons stopping me from getting Directv now :(
