View Full Version : Edu is a joke to the club!

I feel Edu has treated our wonderful club badly in the last few months. We stuck buy him when we first bought him over his passport problems. He has been playing in a winning team, winning medals and playing for one of the top sides in europe.
Now
* He wont sign a contact extension
* Says he wants to leave
*Never wants to play for the club again
I feel edu should treat wenger and the rest of his team mates with more respect

Yeah he bugs me. I just watched the 03/04 season dvd again and it annoyed me to hear his comments knowing what a b*stard he has been since then.
Oh well, any chance we could trade him and some cash for even a half decent defender or center mid from one of the clubs interested in him?
The other thing that bugged me was that he did seem to score crucial goals so many times in the second half of the season that we could certainly use now.

Anyone could have scored those goals, just watch him drag Valencia down to the relegation zone. Even Ranieri will be confused figuring out how not to play that loser. Worst Brazilian ever in my book, i would rather have Pele. Right now, at 80.

I disagree, he's an ingrate disgrace to himself, and whatever club decides to sign his overrated ass. No offense, Heff.

Does the phrase "sour grapes" mean anything here?
You signed Edu, he initially went through difficulties but eventually came good. Now he is unwilling to sign a new contract and Wenger has said that he won't play. Edu has fulfilled his contractual obligation and is well within his rights.
Does the name Sol Campbell mean anything to any of you?

Well without getting into the issue of who was scum in the whole saga (as I feel we might have differing opinions on the matter), both men wanted to see out their contract. However, while one left the club that had made him and went to the nearest rivals (and was welcomed with open ams at Highbury), the other simply wants to move to Spain and has been bullied by his manager.
Why all the hatred for Edu?

How is he being bullied by wenger? and the hatred for edu is because he has treated arsenal badly, and thinks we will move heaven and earth to give him more money. thats what its about for edu, money

As much as myself and Comme agree about absolutly nothing...... I do agree with him about this. Edu has given a lot to Arsenal. He played a huge part in the Prem winning side last season. The tabloids are all saying he wants some huge pay rise. He doesn't, what he wants is definate football. He ha just got into the Brazil squad and wants to maintain his place. We as fans would die for our clubs to get the chance to play for them. Players see it as a job and would never have the same pasion for the club. Edu is a footballer and Arsenal cannot guarrentee him first team football. Therefore he has to consider moving on. What has stopped him doing it sooner is the fact that he loves Arsenal andhas a lot of respect for Wenger and the Fans. Don't read everything you se in the papers and see it as gospel. It's usually gosip......

Why all the hatred for Edu?There are differences in the two situations.
Campbell came up through the youth ranks, gave many years service to Spurs and came to a point where he wasn't going to be in with a chance of winning the Premiership or competing in the Champions League on a regular basis at White Hart Lane. I'm sure that the fact that he could make a large wedge of cash from moving for nothing also swayed his thinking on his decision to see out the remainder of his contract. The manner in which he left is obviously galling to Spurs fans in that the club got nothing for an international player held in great regard by many clubs around Europe and the fact that he came to Arsenal only makes it worse.
Edu came from Brazil, we stood by him through his passport problems, we waited while he took a very long time to settle in England and he finally made it into the team on a more or less regualr basis after being with the club for two years or more. Then after really only one season in the team he gets a place in the Brazil team for the Copa America and ends up winning it. It seems to have escaped him that the ony reason he was in that team is because Brazil rested all their top stars for the tournament, giving him a place which would, ironically, have been filled by Gilberto if he was selected. He now seems to have a big head, over-inflating his self-worth and looking for silly money in a new contract. I mean, he's no Patrick Vieira!
As a side note, I don't see why Valencia want him. I wouldn't drop Baraja or Albelda for him and he's already publicly stated that Barcelona were his first choice. How long before he's trying to engineer a move to the Nou Camp?

I'm with Rick on this one, and not because I happen to think he's a great player. Edu did his time, and he could see the writing on the wall. CM is pretty crowded right now, and since he knew only one spot would be available, regularly, he knew he had to move on.
I say good luck to him in Valencia. I really hope to see him do well....

Rick and Coach have got it right, fans have to realise that not everyone has the same love of the club as Thierry Henry has. But then why should they? Edu probably knew or cared very little about Arsenal before he came. I agree that playing for Arsenal has improved him, and got him in the Brazil squad, but he'd argue that HIS performances on the pitch have got him into the national team. To him it IS a job, albeit a job he really enjoyed, and a job he may well have stayed at should his current employer match his wage demands. Better to remember his performances last season when he really helped us. And lets face it we could have Craig Bellamy...
Good luck to him at Valencia, except when he's playing against Arsenal, when I hope he puts a back pass stright onto the feet of a onrunning Henry

I agree with Rick and Coach. The truth is, Wenger may not admit it, but he thinks that Edu is expendable and he wasn't really interested in keeping him. Edu was destined to leave Arsenal the moment Cese and Flamini came to us. As it is now, Wenger seems to have full faith on those two youngsters and Edu would have been a fourth choice central midfielder if he remained in Arsenal; fifth when Gliberto comes back. As I have said numerous times, he had a chance to cement his place in the first team last season, but eventually it became very obvious that Gliberto is a better choice than him.

I'm of two minds about Edu. First off, he played well last year and he scored some crucial goals. I would disagree with the comment that he scored goals that "anyone could have scored". That might be true in basketball or running the football, but in soccer, that's just not true.
I understand the bit about wanting first team football, and that is very hard to come by in a Wenger-coached team. And in the unending Gilberto-Edu debate, I came down very hard on the Gilberto side. And Cesc is coming up, so Edu saw the writing on the wall.
But... his performance this year was dismal. He started out late, not his fault, but he needed to play much, much harder when he was in than he did. We're weak now in central mid and given his intransigence in contract negotiations, we're left without him as an option, and we could use his experience.
Seems to me he should have been able to say to Arsene: I want first team football, I'd like to seek other opportunities next year, but I'd like to play for you, hard, the remainder of this season. You're hurting with Gilberto out. I'm looking for a big payday, and I'd like the opportunity to put my skills on display.
There, a win-win situation.
Instead, what we've got is a lose-lose situation. And Kolo's out for three games to boot...

Edu wants a certain contract, you are not willing to provide it. Deal with it. That is football and life. If another club is willing to offer him what he wants, then good luck to him.
My point about Campbell was simply that loyalty is a rare commodity in football these days and you have been quite happy to exploit that in the past.
As for his position for Brazil, I personally rate him above Gilberto and feel that he has as good a chance as anyone of establishing himself as Emerson's understudy.
