Social security number can be used in place of passport number at this point, correct?
Yes...but not a drivers license

Thanks.
My fear is that I'll spend a ton of money on tickets and then not have a HOTEL room! How are you guys getting tickets when you don't know where you'll be staying? Are you confident you'll get a room? If so, why?

I've already placed a deposit on a flat in Berlin for three weeks. As soon as the draw is announced on 9-Dec I will reserve hotel rooms for the night of the game in the locations where the US will play. Gotta plan this out early.
Check out the following for additional planning tips:

Because everyone will be in the same boat, and part of the planning strategies from FIFA are to make sure the Hoteliers are on board and available.

The question was whether a SS No. would suffice in lieu of a passport number; this was the response. Where does this info come from? My brother does not have a passport and is disinclined to apply for one unless and until he is assured of tickets. Is it certain that I can I use his SSN as an identifier if he is my "guest" when I apply for tickets? Thanks for any confirmation.

Subject: no drivers license for tickets
Got this response from FIFA on the driver's license as "ID card" on the
ticket applications:
"As identification document we only accept the personal national
identity number or the
passport number. The driving licence number or other similar documents
will not be
accepted by the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany (TM) as identification
documents."

Thanks, but are we certain that a SSN is a personal national identity number? I guess if someone asked me what my personal national identity number was, I would (after looking at the person strangely and pondering my feet for a minute or two) answer with my SSN. My worry, I guess, is that the reference to a personal national identify number is German- or Euro-centric. Thanks again for your answer.

I think someone else emailed them re: SSN but I couldn't find the post.
Why don't don't you just email them and find out.

Honestly...going to get the passport is the best thing to do but I'm sure you have you reasons why you aren't.

don't forget, this is germany....and sticklers for details....
I worried about the same thing about Korea - but I had a friend who knew an executive on the Korea Organizing committee and I was told unofficially that no IDs would be checked. As far as I could tell, none were. It would just be a logistical nightmare - and you can imagine if they tried to take away someone's tickets for having the wrong name?

My passport is expired. I had it when i was 5 years old and went to Sweden, but that was 20 years ago, so I had to apply in person to renew it. I'm in the process of waiting for my new one, but the deadline for FIFA ticket applications will be past before I get it. Does anyone know if you keep the same passport # when you renew like this?
I just emailed that yahoo address. Hope they get back to me in time.

Have we confirmed that the ID number is definitely a SSN?

Yes...here is the email I was looking for...

"If you do not have a passport or ID card, you can use your social
security number to complete your application. However, since you
will need a valid passport to travel to Germany in the end anyway,
we would ask you to update your ID or passport number as soon as you
possess a passport."

Does anyone know if you get a US TST ticket that you'll be seated with other US TST buyers? How do you know that you won't be an island of red within a sea of green? Or do you? Without getting tickets through the USSF, is there any way to be sure you'll be in a group of standing, jumping, screaming Americans? I don't sit for DC United games and I sure as heck don't want to sit during a frikkin' World Cup game!!

So, I procrastinated on doing this. Anyone know if the deadline is midnight in Germany or if you submit by midnight regardless of time zone (does that make sense?)?

Fudge - now you tell me. I agonized and finally used my girlfriend's expired passport number. I hope that doesn't disqualify me. Can I still update my application?
This may have been discussed, but I wish they did the TST conditional's this time around. I would have loaned them a lot of money to buy USA tickets through to the finals -- cough -- I mean I would have bought our finals tickets in advance.

Hey, Dani.
I was thinking the same thing last night. I'm happy I found a better procrastinator than me!! I couldn't find anything definite regarding the cutoff time, but I'd suspect, for their sanity, that the cutoff is midnight Deutsche-time. If that's the case, you've still got about 5 hours as of noon.
Good luck and see you soon!

I'm not certain, but seeing that tickets were available at 601pm Eastern the day before the official 'open' (12:01am, Feb 1, Germany); I would think the cutoff is in 4 and a half hours. (or 3 and half, not sure when the go to daylight savings/summer time, Britain went last weekend).

Thanks, everyone.
I took a 2 hour lunch to go home (needed those passport numbers), send it in, and then come back. Luckily the boss is not in today.

I just placed my order and my application printed the time in Eastern Standard Time, so it looks as though you'll be able to order up until midnight local.
