My problem is that I don't have a passport YET. I only finally have a job where it looks like i'll have the vacation time/money to do this, so I'm throwing myself at the lottery and allotment and hoping. If I get an expedited passport will I be ok?

I haven't gotten the PDF e-mail. I've gotten the e-mails for past matches, and I sure as heck get them for the US Soccer store. I'm getting worried.

I sent her an email (she is in the marketing department)-she looked up my password and manually emailed it to me!
I'd send her an email ...

Frankie Boy,
Thanks. I shot off an e-mail right away. Hopefully this can be sorted out.

Taters-
Give it a try, and expedite the new passport request so you'll have a number by Jan 30. (My thoughts only - take with many grains of salt)
However,
After today's struggles with USSF, I'll be struggling with uncertainty until I see the tickets in my clenched fist.

You can change the information later. Just make sure you put a nine digit number on the application. Incomplete applications will not be processed right away.

I am trying to fax my application this morning to the USSF but the line is busy or the fax cuts off after a second....imagine that...

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The instructions according to them say:
"provide a valid U.S. billing address OR a valid U.S. Passport number."

I am not so sure.
The valid US billing address or US passport number is to confirm to the USSF that you are a US Soccer fan.
FIFA still requires a passport number for obtaining the tix, and the passport number can be anything.
So for example, I have a British friend who lives in the states. He can get US tickets because he 1) has a US address; and 2) has a British passport number.

I read in a previous thread that if you had an expired US passport you needed to indicate directly on the application that the number you were providing was expired. Of course I didn't read that until after attempting 8 hours of faxing, only to give up and eventually just FedEx the darn thing overnight. I've got a valid number as the applicant but my wife didn't get her expidited passport back in time so we used her old one. Anybody know if this will hang up our application?

The rumor is that you can use an expired passport number on the application, but you have to supply the new number by January 30th. But this is hearsay, and I have not seen it confirmed by USSF.
Anyway, I did the same thing with my Dad's passport number.

Yes, it HAS been confirmed by the USSF, in the email I posted in multiple threads.

GOSH!!! I really hope so. I have to renew mine since it expired and I divorced and went back to my maiden name. In my order I wrote my old number, buuuuuuuuuut........ will this be sufficient for both my kids? I am getting them a passport anyway since we are traveling overseas. I only want to make the expense of expediting mine in two weeks!

However, if you are in possession of a passport that is either
currently
expired or will expire before July 9, 2006 please provide the number of
the expired passport on your order form. When completing your order
form
with an expired passport you must note that the passport number listed
is or will be expired by July of 2006 and that you are in the process
of
getting it renewed. You will be required to provide US Soccer with an
updated passport number before Monday, January 30 otherwise your order
will become invalid and any tickets you had been allocated will be
reallocated. New passport numbers will need to be submitted in writing
(via fax or mail) by 12 noon CT on January 30, 2006. When submitting a
new passport number you will be required to provide *_all_* of the
following information:
- Full Name
- Order Confirmation Number (this will be given by US Soccer with
confirmation of the receipt of your order form)
- Old Passport Number
- New Passport Number
- Signature of Passport Holder
There you are.

Still hearsay. Remember, we are dealing with the USSF. I am not sure what to believe out of them...

Have them sign up for the FIFA lottery. Check out the FIFA site, but that is a lottery that will run until January 15th.

It's sort of interesting to look at the early posts (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164691&page=1) on this thread and read how some were going to skip the FIFA because they trusted USSF. Others didn't want to take chances.

You mean, try to get his ticket separately? Maybe his father doing it on his own? What about all seating together? what a mess!!! How can I have a minor alone? What happens to the family of five?
