That's a great call. Pick a central city that has ICE ("bullet" train) connections. Cities like Frankfurt, Würzburg and Fulda might be good bets. I did the times from Würzburg and the furthest to a match venue was like 3 hours and 45 minutes.

You can check rail times from/to any two cities on: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en.

There is also an interactive German rail map on this link: http://downloads.raileurope.com/map_of_europe/germany.html.

Oh sweet! That's exactly what I was looking for too but kept coming up empty handed.
Time to turn the pr0n off and study these maps!
Thanks again

I am guessing by obstruced view, they mean "in the corner"? By not adjacent I am also guessing that if four tickets are bought at the same time, they might not all be sitting together? Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Ah yes, they did tell me about the seating arrangements. They said however that my tickets (5) were confirmed together, so apparently adjacent does not apply. (hopefully)

By restricted view it probably means there is a giant pole in front of you that supports a rafter that would block your view. Additionally, there could be a seat sitting next to a media press box that might obstruct your view. There are several of these situations that could occur. Anyone who has been to fenway park to watch a Red Sox game knows what I mean.

Hopefully there aren't too many of those... and I was hoping we as US supporters could just cram into a section behind the goal. But I have no idea how it will go.

Do Cat-3 tickets from FIFA also have that disclaimer?

Conditional tickets are now on sale.

http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/tickets/taf.html

From what I can tell, you can select individual games, and if there are tickets turned back in, you are on a waiting list to get those tickets. Priority goes to people who have applied and failed, or whose TST team didn't qualify.

All this does is give the scalpers and locals tickets. They should have waited 'til after the draw to do this.

I don't think conditional tickets will actually be allocated until after the draw. FIFA figures this is a way to ensure "full stadiums" not a way to ensure that every game sells out. They want capacity crowds actually in the stadium.

"Your credit card will be debited when your order is successfully accepted."

Meaning, I presume, that they sit on this charge until May? Another nice little money-maker for the organizers.

My bank card was debited $1200 within 5 MINUTES of ordering my USA TST-6 months ago~FIFA doesn't mess around :p

We have decided to stay in Bavarian cities, Baden Baden (old spa town), Munich and Nuremberg. From those cities you're within 2-3 hours of 4 venues (Munich, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Frankfort). By staying ina city like Baden, the family can do things on their own while I go off to matches.

Quick question for everyone: I applied for US TST tickets and was denied. I just received a notice about the conditional tickets. Is my best bet to apply for conditional tickets or wait for the December post-draw sales phase? Should I do both? I was a little confused as to whether or not applying for both conditional and the general ticket sales phase in December would be doubling up and putting me on the hook for more tickets than I could handle. (Though that would be better than my current, ticketless situation.) Thanks in advance for any assistance.

No.

The way I understand it, you will only receive tickets to one match out of up to seven that you request (you will probably need to request before the draw as priority is given to early applications) so it really isn't the way to follow the USA. This sceme is only gonna benefit locals and scalpers because they are the only ones who don't care what teams they're paying to see.

Thanks for the info.

I was reading through the fine print, and there are a lot of problems with it. First and foremost, (as you mentioned) you have to apply before the draw, so you can't select by team. Second, you have to pay for them up front. The whole thing is a bit of a sham, so I'm not going to do it. I'll just have to try my luck with the US allocation or the next sales phase through FIFA. There are some US tickets out there, I just have to figure out how to get my hands on them. :) Thanks again for your help.

Is anyone here planning their trip through Soccer Vacations? I just got a quote for about $3,000 a person. I think he was including a ticket to the 3 first round US matches, 12 nights lodging in Colonge, and a 6 day rail pass (no airfare though- it's probably too early for that).

If this is really the going rate, I don't think I'm going to be able to convince anyone to go to the WC with me.

before throwing money at a company I'd check the out very carefully. There have been many cases of such companies "going bust" on the eve of the world cup, leaving people with absolutely nothing.

$3000 sounds very steep for 12 nights accommodation and 3 return rail tickets. Cologne to Berlin, about as far as you'd go, isn't even $200 return - and a six day rail pass wouldn't cover all 3 group games of any team.

Even three Cat 1 group game tickets are only about $300. So really you are paying $2000+ for 12 night's stay. Hardly sounds a bargain.

I agree 110%.

Anyone with internet access is throwing away money if they book travel through a tour company.

Thanks for the advice.... It seemed really high to me too.

I just got the email from US Soccer about the ticket sale on December 12, but it doesn't say anything about seating US fans together. If you buy tickets from the USSF, will they automatically put you with other US fans?
