Thanks for the quick response!

That was going to be my next question...

How are many of you getting ready for this? Are you buying a package deal or buying things seperately?

I'd like to buy the tix now but I'm afraid I won't be able to get a hotel room.
I'm looking for Mexico and I don't we'll know where they will be playing till December, right?

Thanks again.

si. pero cuesta mas para ver mexico que para ver USA (de euroteam). cuando yo compre los boletos, el precio por boletos USA TST-3 era 810 euros... pero ahorita es 945.... y mexico es mas rico.

and as Dan Barnes just mentioned on the Yanks in Germany list....

The ticket exchange for the 2006 World Cup in Germany will be up and
running again following the draw on December 9. Any Domestic matches
announced that have tickets that come available will be added when that
occurs.

As I see it, we have 4 big options. Some options are better than others.

1. Apply for tickets through the USSF. Make sure you have registered your email on US Soccer Fan (http://www.ussoccerfan.com). It looks like this will happen sometime in December.

2. Apply for tickets by match through FIFA (http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/tickets/index.html) in the 3rd sales phase which starts December 12th.

3. Buy tickets now at a crazy inflated rates from US Soccer Travel (http://www.soccertravel.com/) or Euroteam (http://www.euroteam.info/).

4. Sam's Army (http://www.sams-army.com/index.php?Mlist=content_full&Article_id=223) say they won't have any information available until January or February 2006. I'd say that should be your last try.

Someone please correct me if I am incorrect on any of these. I am just compiling what I have read so far.

How difficult is it going to be to plan this yourself?
In other words; get your tix, get your flight, and then your hotel.
I'm thinking that come Dec 9th on the draw, it's going to be a mad house
once people start to find out where their teams will be playing.

Sometimes I think, let a broker take care of all these worries and just pay up the ass.

How is everyone else doing this on their own, going about it?
Maybe you'll have some ideas I haven't thought about.

You can pay through the ass on tickets like I did, but book everything else yourself, and still save $1000 or more.

But what have you booked so far? Flight maybe but not hotel, right?
I mean you can't book your hotel till you find out what city the team
will be in, right?

Nah nah - I have tickets booked. I am booking airfare this week (I will be overseas for 6 months so airfare is pretty cheap for me), and I already have lodging booked. We are staying in a hostel in Berlin, and we will just be taking trains to the match cities. $40 maybe? for each match.

So a week from now I should be completely finished. My friends just have to book their airfare also.

That's right... I didn't think about that. So the best bet it to pick a city, get a hotel, and then just hop on the train to the matches.

Brilliant!!

thanks Palermo10...

now the question is... where will be Mexico be at?
hmm....

Edit: the trains, some hotels are giving tokens/passes i think, right? i thought i saw that somewhere. now i have to find train info...

So, if you don't mind my asking, you bought tix directly from FIFA or one of the soccer vacations outfits?

Okay, thanks!

Do euroteam.info tickets fall into the category of "FIFA doesn't like these sales and will block your entry into the stadia"?

Euroteam's Order Guarantee:

http://www.euroteam.info/orderGuarantee.asp

And Terms:

http://www.euroteam.info/terms.asp

I read the terms and found this the most interesting: "Please note that tickets ordered in category 3 might be with restricted view and not adjacent."

Got one more question guys...

I read somewhere that from all WC cities were pretty much about 6 hrs away from each other taking a train.

Any truth to that?

Is that's the case, I'm going to try to pick a central city and just take my 6 hr train ride to and from.

Thanks again.

Any idea what the heck that means?

I don't see how it could be restricted view inside the stadium. And what the hell does not adjacent mean in this context?

That's a great call. Pick a central city that has ICE ("bullet" train) connections. Cities like Frankfurt, Würzburg and Fulda might be good bets. I did the times from Würzburg and the furthest to a match venue was like 3 hours and 45 minutes.

You can check rail times from/to any two cities on: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en.

There is also an interactive German rail map on this link: http://downloads.raileurope.com/map_of_europe/germany.html.

I am guessing by obstruced view, they mean "in the corner"? By not adjacent I am also guessing that if four tickets are bought at the same time, they might not all be sitting together? Anyone else have thoughts on this?

By restricted view it probably means there is a giant pole in front of you that supports a rafter that would block your view. Additionally, there could be a seat sitting next to a media press box that might obstruct your view. There are several of these situations that could occur. Anyone who has been to fenway park to watch a Red Sox game knows what I mean.
