from gazeta.ru (i doubt you kiddos will be able to read this) but basically, Oleg Romantsev, coach of Dinamo Moskva, has invited Chelski and Monaco to play against his team in the summer. For those who don't know Romantsev is the best coach in Russia, made semi finals of CL once too (with Spartak Moskva). He is finally getting decent players, i.e. Derlei, and basically the whole Portuguese National Team. So I guess he will have to prove himself against us.

Post the link anyway, you might be surprised. ;)

As for the invite - huh? We're probably playing in the US again, and then inviting a few high profile teams for friendlies at the Bridge to celebrate the centennary. I wouldn't be shocked if a Russian team was invited, but Dynamo? The rumors have been Real, Boca and Milan, not Dynamo.

Chelsea's definitely doing the ChampionsWorld tour in the US again - if they aren't, I'll cry as I won't make it to the Bridge anytime soon. :(

I don't know. He has been resigned and been fired few times as the head coach, after few poor performances, especially after Euro 1996, where they only got 1 point in their group. In his defense, that group had Czech Republic, Germany and Italy, but you know Russia, if you don't win, you are out.

I still think that Valeriy Lobanovskiy is the best coach ever to come out of USSR.

Lobanovskiy came out of Ukraine, Romantsev came out of Russia. I'll find the link - hold on.

Since when are all people coming out of former USSR are becoming such nationalists? I mean, i did say Lobanovsliy came out of USSR, but since we are taling about greatest coaches, why separate Ukraine and Russia. I don't get it.

You answered your own question - nationalism. But regardless, it's an argueable debate. It doesn't matter though, I think that if Romantsev keeps getting the players he has been, in 3-4 years he will win CL.

Well, that is yet to be seen. In any case, i would hate to see either a Russian or a Ukrianian team win CL with all the foreign players they have now. It's a joke if you ask me. I know all teams in Europe (at least the best teams) have loads of foreigners, but it has never been like that in USSR. Althoug i love Dynamo Kiev and historically they are the best Soviet teams by a landslide, i still want to see those teams play only players that are truly Ukrainian or Russian. Well, that's my opinion. As for Romantsev winning the CL, it's a long road.

I disagree with DK being historically the best USSR team... Spartak anyone?

Come on Meta, if you had to chose between KGB(Dynamo) and Politburo(Spartak), who would you take? :D

Spartak has lots of history with Starostin brothers, but we had Blokhin and Belanov later on. I have to do a quick comparison as to who won more trophies and all, but Dynamo Kiev had more players play on USSR team than any other team, for sure.

As we chanted in Ukraine about a Spartak player who you should know:

"Chto za rijaya podkova?
Eto morda Cherenkova"
:D
