I wish GPK would once make a prediction after he posts the first match thread. Come on GPK, give us your thoughts on the outcome.

I really don't know what might happen, but if we lose, i wonder if that will hurt our confidence in the long run. It will be another low scoring game, so i am hoping for a 1-0 win at OT. It will be tough, tough game, but i believe we can do it. Come on Blues!

I try to keep the 1st post of the thread about information only...Also, I'm not much of a prediction guy. The only things I can really predict here is that come Wednesday at 3PM I'll either be listening to Big Blue or at a pub somewhere near Boston cheering on the Blues.

And come Feb 7 you'll be in the same pub crying about the Eagles taking out the Pats...

GPK is much, MUCH too busy slapping down Gooners. I mean, he is a SUPER-mod and all.

I don't think confidence is something you ever have to worry about from a Mourinho squad. I think we could win this game 2-1 but also lose it by the same scoreline. It'll be close and united won't concede anything but the way we are playing right now, United need to play their A game to win. I don't know if we need to do that to win though.

I'll be highly surprised, dumbfounded in fact, if old red nose fields anything other than the strongest possible team he has available to him.
He knows he's got to do something to get this 'blip' thing going, to get talk in the rags about it, to get other players and teams talking about it.

I think he's going to make this game a launching point for his (futile) attempt to get at the players in the league.Red nose doesn't give a ******** about the carling cup. But, he will care to get get a dent in the team confidence that is Chelsea Football Club.He can't rely on others to do it in the league, as we continue to dismiss challenge after challenge. When they win we win, when they score three, we score three...and concede none ;).It's getting to the point where he's desperate to get something started.

This game will provide the platform.

I can't see anything other than an all out full tema from them, with an all out attitude of winning the game, by whatever means are necessary.

This will be a really tough game, Man U away is never easy to begin with, coupled with his desperation to wipe the grin of Mourinhos face and hopefully install some doubt in the Chelsea team, he's got no better chance than right now.
he probably fully realises that the league return match at Old Trafford could be little more than academic, as the title destination could very well be decided by then.

How will we respond?

Well, i know JM will make the team feel as confident as possible regardless of the result at OT, but i guess i wasn't sure if the players will really feel the same way if we lose to MANU. Althoguh it's only Carling Cup, i'm sure we all want, as do the players to win all 4 trophies. Maybe some more than others, but JM must have the though of overshadowing the '99 treble. What i'm trying to say. and i know i sound redundant as i was saying the same thing after the Porto loss, but loosing to Mancs might feel different and more painful than losing to Porto. Hopefully, it won' t happen, but i just dont want to lose that invinceable feeling that the team has, that's all.

One goal for us wins it, since that'd force United to score two.
And of course they're going to put their strongest team out there. They practically did it last time, too. They rested what, two players? And two were out with injury. So all this talk about "second choice" is rubbish. SAF is starting to realize he's going to want at least one trophy this season, too.

IF we were to lose the match(which i doubt we will), SAF & Wenger will say "aha, told you they'd loose one" but seriously, is the 4th tier competition really where they want us to falter? (1prem/2CL/3FA-C/4L-C) i'd love to win the "Quad":D, but right now i'd rather loose this match than just about any other match until may.

anyways, after the man city match we proved that confidence is not lost with one game.

ooh, Post #1000, good on me;)

I predict 1-1, putting us through. I think United will come out with guns blazing, and that we'll be happy to soak up the pressure and try to expose their gaps on the counter. I see United dominating possession early, but Arjen Robben scoring a counterattack goal in the first 20 mins. That would force United to chase the game, and I have no doubt that we can limit them to one goal.

Good post Clan - and I think it can go either way as well (although we have somewhat of a good record in Semi-Finals going for us as well).

Should be a better game of football as well - both teams going for goals. If Ronaldo can repeat the form of this weekends game then that may give us an edge on your defence enough to squeak in the two goals I think we will need to take this (a tough, tough job considering your Goals Against stats this year but who knows....).

Here's hoping for a good game of football with the best team winning (and no crappy referee decisions - maybe too much to hope for :D )

I have a feeling it'll be quite an entertaining game, perhaps not free flowing at the begining, as i'm sure we;ll be looking to play on the counter more so than taking the game to you. That works for us, with our speed from the team as a whole.
As the game goes on though, and especially if you score first, i think it'll open up.
It's anybodies game i agree, only a fool would say we will win easy, or we'll be defeated easily.

Wouldn't be surprised if it went into extra time.
