In the US (and some other places), between the Fall and Springs seasons, many players head inside. If you're one of them which game do you prefer: futsal (no walls, small lo-bounce ball) or indoor soccer (hockey walls, regular fuzzy ball) and why?

Indoor soccer. more room to pull tricks :). We dont use a fuzzy ball tho, we just use a regulation ball. i enjoy it much more then futsal tho, i hate that weighted ball.

I've never played Futsal, but it looks frustrating. Very few shots, too much dribbling and short passing. I like indoor, no walls play. (7v7 usually on astroplay, played on a football field, halfway split down the middle so that two games can be played at the same time).

Dumb question coming up:
Other than walls vs lines, are there any other differences between indoor soccer and futsal.
We play with lines and I've always called it indoor soccer. :o I guess you learn something new everyday on BS.

The main remainind difference is the ball. The Futsal ball is basically size 3, and the ball is weighted. I actually like Futsal, the few times I played it, and I wish I played it when I was younger, because I really do think it helps to develop control and innovation better than indoor (when in trouble, bang it off a wall!). I'm a bit biased, though, because once playing indoor my foot got caught in a seam on the "turf" as I turned, and I basically got slammed into the ground, hitting my head pretty hard and getting a concussion. How I didn't snap my leg, I still don't know.

Yeah Dr. Wankler has got a point in that futsal is probably better for close-area control and probably is better for advanced foot skills, however I prefer indoor. It is just more fun than futsal, mainly because the people I play with cannot control the ball and there is way too much stoppage of play. In indoor soccer the game doesn't stop until the ball is in the goal; NO FOULS!

I play at a facility in Rawlings, MD. They have both a futsal court and Indoor arena, but both are played on a tennis court like substance. We play with both regulation and Fuzzy balls. I prefer indoor much more than futsal. At out local YMCA they have the ability to put together a professional grade indoor facility. They take the glass and walls out of the ends and put latge goals in. The turf is also laid down. This is AMAZING! The only problem is they dont do it until hockey is over and hockey is their priority in the winter. But I have played on the turf and its brilliant! Cheers

Futsal teaches you how to use your body and keep tight control, and you learn the basics of out-thinking opponents. It's a good game to play as a drill on occasion. And if you have no other option it's obviously better than nothing. But even with the very best players it is slow and it does nothing at all for ball skills. Being slow can be good for beginning type players who are still developing their foot skills but who need to start learning the tactical fundamentals of the game.
Indoor, the hockey rink kind, does nothing for tactics, but is good for learning some specific skills such as shooting and one on one defending. It's also a lot better exercise. But it also doesn't do much for your first touch (unless you play with a regularly weighted ball and can play with cleats, I know some indoor centers do this now).
I'm jealous of you guys who say you play indoor on a turf field with no walls and fairly large goals. That sounds like the ideal solution to me. In fact, most pro teams and the national team do a lot of their practices just playing like 6v6 on big goals.

My experience with futsal has been as a player and a coach. The other thing I love about it is that the game forces you to deal with transitions very, very quickly. As a coach, I found that the guys who's been playing futsal during the winter came to their spring season more ready to transition from attacking to defending play and vice versa.
Either way it's OK. Indoor is dynamite for the scoring opportunities and the 1v1 play. It's great fun, too.

That's not correct. Indoor Soccer has rules and there are many disconduct and fouls, and you can to see many players receiving blue or yellow card, and sometime red card too.
I play indoor right now, but I prefer futsal.
In my area (Dallas/Fort Worth) there are not too much activities in futsal, and there are many indoor facilities.

I like indoor a lot more. There hasn't been much organized futsal in my area, while indoor has flourished. Futsal seems to be a much more technical game, while indoor leads to more flow and creativity. Also, playing on a soft, sythetic surface similar to many outdoor artificial turfs is cool, and the walls add another fun element to the game.

Easy man, I don't care what the "rules and regulations" are for indoor soccer, I am just saying how we play. Blue cards and whatnot are for p****ys.

I play futsal (not real futsal) every tuesday of the week.....quite small field....turf...regular ball.....out of bounds lines and 4v4 + goalies.
And i play Indoor soccer every wednsday for the week - just like a hockey rink but with turf instead of ice with regular ball and we play 7v7 - 9v9 depends how many ppl come....because its not a league....its just that we rent a rink and we play for one hour.
And i must say that i hate Futsal.....the field is way to small plus you have out of bounds lines so its hard to do much unless youre team plays together all year round (not my team). There is barely time and/or for anything. Also you cant really lift the ball in the air because it will go out of bounds. Unlike Indoor soccer where you have much more room and more time to do something....you can play the balll in the air more etc.

I have not player Futsal but would love to once.
I have played indoor on both the traditional astroturf and the new sportturf where you wear your outdoor boots. I love the game. Fast paced, good exercise. What I have found is that indoor will help you improve your shooting since you are in a confined area with not much time to set your shots, and your first touch will get better as well. In the indoor game, the ball comes to you much faster and your marks will be on you in no time.
I have played indoor 11 v 11 with regulation size nets, full field everything, but it was indoor on sportturf. Played just like an outdoor game, it was a blast. That place was in Cinncinati.
