C'mon people, stop slacking! :D

Today's discussion:

What are men really thinking when girls cry? I've always wanted to know.

Wait, is that the answer to "What happened to Off Topic of the Day?" or "What are men really thinking when girls cry?".

Actually, when girls cry, we think "how can I get her into bed? Oh, and shes crying. I wonder how that helps me get her into bed."

Not that men are shallow or anything.

I always thought guys were thinking "Oh shit, I have no idea what to do, what do I do??? OMG OMG". Seems like most men don't know what to do when anyone cries.

Maybe if I hug her, she'll shut up.

my instant reflex is to give careful thought to what might have prompted such a reaction from her. generally, only a moment's consideration will reveal the problem. this is usually followed up by a brief period of frustration and mental self-flagellation for not having been sensitive or caring enough to have prevented it before it even happened.

but enough of thinking about me! back to her, and what i can do to alleviate her anguish.

of course, the remedy is dependent upon the malady. but in all cases, a little simple caring empathy and loving communication - occasionally in words, but more often in the form of a warm caress - will start us on our way to a happier place, where ...
...where...
...hold on...

...oh, mercy. i almost got it all out. were any of you guys able to read that far before wretching?

What I say when a girl cries...usually I say "I'm sorry. What can I do to make it better?" while in my head I'm thinking "Oh ********, what now?"

I had forgotten the original topic of this "OTOTD" thread.

Women crying...ugghh...I just sit there, saying "there, there" praying to God that I eventually hit on the right combination of words to make it stop. Here are some word combo's I have found work well:

"When I said that, I was actually talking about your sister"

"Hey, she was flirting with me and I didn't want to be rude"

"Of course you look great. Why would you think otherwise?"

"Hey, I bought you a car"

Those phrases will generally get you out of most crying jags... :D

You boys are a hoot. My estimations of your thoughts were pretty much spot-on, especially the part about getting us into bed. :D

Please continue with random silliness.

I made it through.

Actually, to answer the question posed by our merseyblue mod, I don't think anything at times like that. If someone's crying, it's past the time for thought. Better to just shut up, let her know I'm there, and wait. Can't and shouldn't try to stop someone from crying.

Or I can just say, "Let me know when you're ready to talk."

Wow what a sensitive lot you guys are! Is it possible that women don't always want something when they cry? I cry every time I see the movie Old Yeller, I cried yesterday when the little kid sang the National Anthem at the Eagles game. This is going to sound stupid but sometimes it just feels good to cry. Gets the tension out and doesn't mean I want something or something is wrong.

See, I know a lot of men don't get that girls just need to cry sometimes. Often, it's for no reason. For me, it's a good stress relief. I get a few tears out after a bad day at work and I feel like a new person.

I've always thought that men, in general, see tears and panic.

Hey, like I said..."can't and shouldn't stop anyone from crying."

Anyway, who wants a sensitive guy, really? Being sensitive kept me single until I was 31, and it took my present fiancee EIGHTEEN years before she finally realized that I wasn't so bad. Don't be surprised if men have to act like schmucks simply to maintain their reputation as not being weak, etc.

When a woman is crying, i tell myself that it's probably fake and if you ignore it, it will go away. Then, in about 3 minutes, i can't take it, so i start apologising. Damn, i can't resist against tears. In the words of Professor Higgins, "Why can't a woman... be more like men?"
