i've decided to try and play in a fantasy league, but then soon realized that there are two different sites out there. There is MFLS.com and then MLS fantasy league supported by sportingnews.com (the one that MLSnet.com sends you to). Is there a real difference, is one better then the other? I'm just looking to find out which one to play in.

Thanks,

I prefer MFLS.com as well, but I do both because the MLS fantasy league has more prizes. ;)

I've played both, and prefer MFLS. The major difference is that MFLS has a bench (11 starters, 7 subs, 1 coach) while MLSFC has just the 11 starters. MLSFC only allows 25 roster moves (unless you want to buy more, which I don't), so it really limits what you can do, and I lost interest by the end of the season. MFLS also limits roster moves (around 32) but you can make unlimited moves between bench and starters, so you can modify your lineup every week if you want to, which (IMHO) makes it more interesting.

not to mention that in MFLS you can sign a coach, hence the Loyalty Cup (proud champion). Most people play both, but the general notion is that MFLS is better.

Yeah, "proud champion" who didn't even know he was winning since he lost interest in his team halfway through the season! No one is more loyal than Masochism FC. This year you're going down! :D

Given the number of people who lose interest prior to week 1, I'm willing to cut someone slack if they lose interest halfway through the season :D

Usually I lose interest in the fantasy games when the Revs are sucking, so it's usually early.

Ok MFLS.com is it. Thanks guys. But two more little questions:

 A) haha, when am i allowed to sign up?

 B) Is there a Rev fan specific division? I would at least like to play with people I sort of know, aka you all.

you just need to be on the lookout for when the league starts so you can sign up quickly. There is a Revs division, and it only holds 50 teams, and it's on a first come basis so sign up quickly. As the season nears the leagues (MFLS and MLSFC) will start up and you'll see threads on the boards on information on how to get in groups and which groups are open, etc. Hope that helps.

I recently got an e-mail reply from Mark Wheeler, (head of MFLS), and he said the site would open up for the 2005 season in early March.

You know, I still would like to see our division move to either a conference-type setup with 25 teams in each. Or, a first division, second division, with promotion and relegation every year. It would help keep everyone interested. Plus, we could still have an inter-divisional cup. And Divisional Cups too.
Base it on last year's finish, and we'll fill empty spots with the next lowest team moving up. Newcomers fill in the rest of the spots.

Just a thought...

I've played both as well. We even created two MLS Net (Sporting News) divisions. One was for the official MLS Net division for each MLS team that gets awarded some prizes from the team in addition to the MLS.Net prizes. To win or place in that division, plan on spending $75 to buy the extra trades. Everyone gets 25 trades for the season; you can buy up to 75 more.

We also created a team affiliate division where all managers agreed to NOT buy the extra trades. I was so bored with that division that I switched my team to the open division and won the official DC United team division last year. The value of the prizes just slightly exceeds the money expended.

As for MFLS, I love what Mark has done with that competition, the original MLS fantasy soccer competition. With his permission, we created a small, 8 team Beta division where we held a draft and no two teams could have the same player. We maintained that uniqueness the whole season and held internal competitions. Our top "drafted" team got into some of Preston's (Brew City FA Division) MFLS wide cup competitions, but our drafted teams were not too competitive to the regular teams.

As to which MFLS division to join, I recommend getting in one of the historically better divisions that is very active and participates in some of Preston's cup competitions.

You can check out his site at http://my.execpc.com/~pvmiii/brewcity/cupcomp.html to see if some of those divisions might interest you and that are also Rev affiliated.

Many of those divisions are private so you'll need to get an invitation from the manager of the division.

Since RevMFLS seems to be the only double-sized division left, I've been thinking the same thing. Maybe the top division would be RevMFLS - JMM, and the 2nd division would be RevMFLS - Zenga. Or something like that.

We'll have to ask the Commish. Jeremy?

Assuming you're talking to me, I'd be against it personally, but if people were in favor, then I guess that would be ok.

Just seems like it would be very difficult to herd people into this or that division, and not everyone comes from BS to participate.

Also, I think you need to create a team in the division to be able to manage it, so you'd end up with two people in charge as it were (not that there's a lot of in charging to go around anyway).
