I was at the game last night.

Jay - as usual - was terrific. He is so reliable, that when he goes for a defensive header, you know he'll win it. < cue three goals for Gillingham striker all from headers a week on saturday ! >

There was one scary moment when Baros was almost through the back line, JD sprinted across the park, & slid in with his leg outstretched. It looked like he'd completely missed the ball & let Baros in on goal, but luckily he just got a slight touch & the ball deflected out of play.

This is JD's only weakness at the moment - selecting when to go for the ball & when to just 'stand-up' & push an attacker wide. He did this a couple of times, earlier on in the season on his debut & again at Gillingham later.

Certainly JD has never replaced either of Dyche or Cox this season, unless because of injury or suspension.

JD has replaced however, our other young centre back prospect Lloyd Doyley. Lloyd must be really sick that Jay is doing so well as he has lots more first team experience & just as much pace. But on the whole if I were Ray L, I think I'd have to choose Jay after Dyche, but thats just my opinion.

Maybe Chelsea might want a deputy for John Terry & pay Watford £5million for Jay, then loan him back to us for 3 seasons :-)

Sky Sports reported that Florent Sinama-Pongolle has suffered a torn ACL and is done for the season. I know he's a striker but does it open up a roster spot for Whitbread?

I doubt it very much.

Premiership clubs just go out & spend lots of cash on a replacment in such circumstances. It seems to be the 'rule' that because they all receive so much TV money, they HAVE to spend it, whether they need to or not.

Clearly I am a cynic !
