BBC Sport's website is reporting that Jermaine Pennant has been arrested for drunk driving. No details reported yet. Can anyone confirm this?
If it is true, then his career at Arsenal is over. I think AW has been patient with him regarding his off-the-field problems but this may be the last straw...

He is a good player very skillful but Wenger must be losing patience big time.

what a ********ing moron
in Australia
for about 20 years
there has been a "Drink drive, bloody idiot" campaign going on
and every single police car is a random breath test unit so if you drink drive at night
there is a really high chance you will get caught coz they are everywhere

Fedwood its similar here with drink driving. Classic case of footballer thinking he is above the law. Tool

Why was Pennant driving Ashley's Mercedes at 6 in the morning? And drunk? the night before a big game? And he wonders why Arsenal don't want to offer him a new contract. ********ing idiot.

Why should this affect his football career? When people get pulled over and fined for drunk driving, their co-workers don't find out about this and don't treat them differently so why should this affect him just because he's a professional sports person?

He is a role model, there is an element of trust involved, clubs have rules, bad publicity, etc.

Oh, so that's why ManUtd immediately terminated Cantona's contract after he kung fu kicked a fan, right?

If this was the first time Pennant has gotten into trouble, it probably wouldn't be a huge deal. But with his history, it is the final nail in the coffin for his career at Arsenal.

Well, considering that AW has a strict no booze policy, in the run up to a game, and that 1/2 billion people around the world will know about this overpaid, arrogant and foolish idiots behaviour, it's a bit different from a co-worker getting jarred up at the office party!
This is the 2nd time JP has been caught drink driving, there was a similar incident when he was on loan at Leeds. My guess is, his feet won't touch the ground as he's shown out of the door? Shame really! The last time he came on was the first time I thought he'd shown any promise?

For a start the guy your moaning that is not a Man U fan.
Also its contract renewal that is thread is bringing into question (at most).
Lastly don't you support Muto's former employers.

Actually, he is.

Oh, so you can't offer a contract to a drunk driver but keeping someone on the payroll who violently assaults spectators is OK?
Lastly don't you support Muto's former employers.
Mutu? Yes, which is an awful analogy, since we've canned both of our players busted for drugs. (Bosnich being the other.) Rio's now captaining the ManUtd side when Keane is out.
But if it had been Lampard, of course we wouldn't have gotten rid of him. It all depends on the player. So long as you're good enough, no one cares. Pennant's just not good enough.

Theres a differnece between sacking and a contract not being renewed arguing this would just embaress us both. And Cantona was suspended
by the way.

You have not shown that to be a awful analogy at all you have just proven you have been consistent so what. Specialy if you accept you would'nt do the same with a invaluble player.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I also disagree with Muto and Pennent not being good enough there both more than good enough to player for either club but niether is/was invuable enough to escape there employers wrath.

I did not know Teso was a Man U fan I apologise

I think in general your point is a fair one Nice! Which player will make a difference.
At present, it's probably less true of Arsenal than most clubs. AW grew up in a bar in Strasbourg and has a deep loathing of booze and what it does to people. By all accounts it took one hell of a lot to persuade him not to can Adams and Merson as soon as he took over at Highbury. He fundamentally doesn't believe that winning trophies and guzzling booze goes together. I think Pennant will have tried his patience to the max and he hasn't done anything to really convince that he's worth mollycoddling any longer?
Incidentally AW's background is part of the reason why he and Sir Red Nose don't get along. The old shart likes to have the opposing manager in for bruskis after a match and Wenger snubbed this tradition from the start.
