looks like its a very big deal by Adidas (£300m plus) to take over from umbro and would this mean that beckham will be part of the deal as he is part of Adidas

1. if he comes would he get in to the team
2. would JM want him
3. or would JM walk away from the Russian as the Russian and Adidas would except beckham to play because of all the shirt sales

RA did not turn from an orphan selling decoy ducks out of a tiny apt. into a billionaire, regardless of the veracity of any rumoured methods, by being an idiot.

He will neither send or piss JM off, and if Joaquin, a much better winger (outside forward for the pensioners :D) at the moment, was too much an off the pitch player for JM's approval, one really has to laugh at the never dying rumour that Becks is on his way.

And if and I hope it is Addidas, they will not likely kill a deal with the next POTENTIAL (always a big unknown if - not at all saying it will happen) dynesty by insisting Becks has to come and play, though they are not always the most astute compared to Nike in the markiting dept.

what he said ^

but i wouldn't say beckham shouldn't come, if he wants why not give him a chance? just remember... even if he doesnt do what we all know he is capable of, he could still be used as another threat. imagine lampard drogs robben becks and terry(and mk9 for cfc:;)) coming down at you, hes just another superstar that you have to watch. i know im gonna get flamed for this, but it seems like at beckham is underrated for what he is and does. yes his wife is annoying, no he does not score every game, blah blah. i could argue this point further, but remember just because everyone thinks he would fail, what if he gets revitalized and lights the epl up? everything he needs is there. support, quality players, and no big egos to content with.

you guys keep talking it down, but if he comes i cannot see us as not being stronger because of it

if arse or manu got him, i would be worried that they would be stronger.

Seems like a done deal. But , why would Becks come? Solely because of adidas? No sense.

i think its more a matter of "since we are doing this now he can come"
as opposed to "we need to change because he is"

solely to replace Zola on free kicks :D . Lampard is still not there in the kicking-over-the-wall category.

That puts it firmly in the category of "Hear Say" then. Sometimes they get it right, but ive heard them spout some right old BS that is their opinion, and put it across as fact.

Plus its Beckham, and there is not a club in the World he HASNT been linked with at some point :D

if it is Adidas
would the jerseys probably look like the Real Madrid 3rd jersey this year?

I'd encourage you to read this article (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature?id=322556&cc=5901) that contrasts Chelsea's transfer policy with that of Real Madrid. The idea that Beckham would come to the Bridge for "business development" reasons doesn't jive with the current thinking at the club.

Well look how much Beck's free kicks are helping Real.

Fair point.

But equally, I sure sure that nobody reading any of this would claim that he's really settled in at Real - would they?

His game had a few weaknesses at Man U (remember any fantastic Beckham tackles anyone?) BUT he wasn't too bad at what he did best - i.e. some fantastic passes and, as I said earlier, sublime kicks from set pieces.

It's a pity that he's gone the way he has. He certainly had the potential to be as good as anyone could be at a particular aspect of his chosen sport - a real match winner in fact. Apologies to anyone to doesn't know what I'm talking about but I can't help comparing him to rugby's Jonny Wilkinson.

I blame Posh...

this whole beckham and freekicks business is a total joke if you ask me,hes not even half as good as ronald koeman was.

point in case his last season in england he only scored one of them in the league, and that was on the last day of the season against everton.that one he scored against greece, how many goes had he had in that game before one went in,ehh?

hes been totally overhyped by the media

I just recently read his "autobiography" (borrowed from a friend, thank you, I would never buy it myself), and he admits that he's afraid of strong tackles, basically. From his early years through his ManYoo years, he focused in on tackles and how jarring/severe/scary they are. I was frankly suprised, I would have thought his Dad would have warned him when he was little that it's part of the game. :p

I do have to disagree with the Posh point, using his book as backup. I don't think it was ever her who was the demanding one in the relationship - I get the feeling from the book that Becks has always valued his family above football, to the extent that he wouldn't care if it interfered with his career. To blame her for his focus on family/relationships/children just isn't right, imho.

That all being said, I think he's overrated. :D

Agree to disagree. I believe our midfield is strong right now, and what we lack is a stronger offense. I believe Owen (24?) would be a better investement than Beckham(29). Owen would work well with Drogs IMO. It doesn't matter though, in all likeliness we wont get either

If we get adidas then does that mean no Freddy Adu? Do players personal deals have that big an impact on the teams they play for?

BTW: Craig Bellamy's available. :D
