It is Friday once again, and many of us will head out to the pub to ease the pain of another work week. I know most of us have the footie pub and the fancy pub for first dates, but do you have a "local" pub where they know you too well? Where do you go and why? Is it for the cheap beer, cheap women/men, atmosphere, etc.?
I'm new to this area, but I head to Cassidy's Irish pub here in Corpus. No TV's ( ) but it is nice and they have a good beer selection. I also hit the Executive Surf Club b/c they ususally have a surf video on and a great draft beer selection.
In Miami Beach it was the Playwright Irish Pub. Knew all the staff very well and they even gave me discount ;) (spent way too much time there).
Happy Friday!!!

I love my local pub. It's called Galvin's on Austin and Lawrence, for you Chicagoans. It's a great place to hang out because every 3rd-4th round is on the house. Quiet, lots of atmosphere, great food and it's usually full of drunk Irishmen (always good for a laugh!). :D

I don't really have a "local". There is a bar in LaGrange called Palmer Place with about 40 beers on tap and 300 different types of bottles. They have a kick ass beer garden in the summer.
I've been to The Globe so many times I should just consider that my local

I don't have a pub. All of the places here are sports bars that I wouldn't be caught dead in.

Living on a small Caribbean island, there are not alot of people, thus not many bars.
So after being here for almost 9 years, you get to know all of the bartenders.
In the town of Christiansted, we have like 4 or 5 bars to go to, well bars that i would go to and they all pretty much know my name.

I don't like beer, or blended scotch for that matter, so I only go to a bar to play pool. Time Out Tap and Grill is typically tacky sports bar, but it is only 3 minutes from my house. I like Great Slates in Cambridge, but I'm not good enough to notice the difference in the tables/bar cues.

damn, i like that 4 AM liquor license. I will need to find a local when I move into the city.
My footie pub and my local are one in the same - Lucky Bar. They know me, and have the best staff in DC. My other favorite local is Asylum, which is closer to where I live. Great atmosphere, great bartenders, and the best jukebox in DC.

Mother of a 4 year old so my local bar days are sort of over (babysitters are expensive!), but we used to spend a lot of time at Limerick Junction-great Snake Bites and live Irish folk music. Good times! Now we hang out at Chick Fila and Chuckie Cheese alot. Although they do sell beer at Chuckie Cheese so that is cool! :p

It's sort of scary to think of what a homebody I've become, because I so rarely go out for drinks that I definitely don't have a local. Usually, it's the lady and I having some cognac or a beer or two at our pad.
Back in my grad school days, though, I was at the Foxhead in Iowa City at least two or three nights a week, often shooting pool until closing time.

During the week - Fox and Hounds in Studio City. Try to go at least once a month. I will be there for Arsenal vs. ManU! Weekend - Lucky Baldwin's in Pasadena. Nice cosy joint. :D

Middle-aged family man. My local is called The Fridgidaire, and it's on a corner of Kitchen right where it runs into Family Room. Very well stocked, good variety of beers. Barkeep isn't much for words, and the TV is always tuned to Nickelodeon or Animal Planet until about 9 o'clock, but after that it loosens up a bit. Not the place to meet women.

Shockingly, the closest thing i have to a "local" is the Russian Vodka Room.

I'll give recognition to Matt Murphy's in Brookline Village. No TV's in the cozy room, so can't watch games there. It's a decent "fancy pub" for a date dinner, though.
To me, though, it's the local bar where the guys go after weeknight league games. The crowd might be dating couples or friends out for the night. However we are unshowered and our sweat is still drying. Pints of guinness all around from the friendly barkeeps, and the occasional bread baskets or "chips" on the house.

Back in Champaign it was undoubtedly Murphy's Pub. Up here, the closest thing to a local in the suburbs is Curragh. In the city I've got more memories of Ginger's, but seems like all the atmosphere has shifted to The Globe.

Former dive bar on the upswing; live music ranging from brilliant to unmitigated crap. Used to work there so I get lots of perks.

What is it that John McEnroe says - "You Cannot be Serious"!!!! :D Lucky Bar is a dump, and only serves as the most convenient (and cheapest) bar in DC to watch footie on weekends. Otherwise I cant stand the place, though I agree with ya that the staff are usually extremely friendly. Twice I've been there on weekend nights where fights broke out and once someone released pepper spray and they had to evacuate the whole damn place. At least they have the latest Golden Tee machine, and dont charge the same prices as Summers.
I much prefer Bierskeller with their great selection of imports. In Adams Morgan I always find the Reef an interesting time, and while its not exactly a bar, I really enjoy going to Tryst. Also, I particularly enjoy Saint Ex on 14th St.
