Ken Bates has completed a £10 million deal to takeover Leeds United, sealing his return to football after he sold his shares in Chelsea to Roman Abramovich 10 months ago.

Bates, 73, is heading a consortium reported to be based in Geneva and will replace Gerald Krasner as the Leeds chairman.

Dearie me ... I wonder how long it will be before the "Whyte & Mackay" branded Vespa is available in the club shop? At least now they'll have a nice "Chel...errr Leeds Village" to build on that god-awful car park next to the ground.

ken bates has obviously spied an opportunity.

he failed in his crusade to make chelsea the most debt ridden entity in the world, being pipped only by the freefall of marconi's bank balance.

however, with marconi refinanced and out of the way, the path is open for him to achieve his goal - and he has purchased the the perfect starter kit.

i would have thought he'd buy one off ebay for £1 (comes with a complimentary £15m mortgage).
