Blues to bin Umbro early - shock!

Chelsea have paid nearly £25 million to end their kit deal early.

The Blues were contracted to Umbro until June 2011 - but the West London giants have decided to end their agreement five years early.

Chelsea have now agreed a termination package worth £24.5 million - which will see Umbro stop providing their kits in 2006.

The Blues celebrate their centenary season next term and Umbro will continue to provide their kit for this event.

"The Centenary season should be a great celebration for everybody connected with Chelsea and we look forward to Umbro sharing in that," said chief executive Peter Kenyon.

"They have made a major contribution to the Chelsea of today. However we believe this decision will help us achieve our strategic long term goals in the future."

So, I do hope it's adidas but I'm not holding my breath. Well, actually I am. How pi$$ed o(( is the product manager at Umbro in charge of selling replica Chelsea kits? He just went from "next company president" to "you screwed up the deal that would have made this company".

And, yes, I know it wasn't his/her fault that Umbro shipped 0 jerseys to the USA in the last two years, but that's not going to help their career.
