Keeper Richard Wright believes he can do better for Everton. What genius figured this out??

"There have been little things that have been cropping up in my performances which have irritated me....Little things have been cropping up, which haven't usually been an issue, mostly on decision-making."
"Little things"??

His gaffe in the Middlesboro game, for one, seems a lot more like a "major blunder" than a "little thing".

I pitty goalkeepers I really do. No wonder there is so little youth talent comming through these days. Seems that all clubs want to blame their keper for loosing games.

Ce la vie

I'm not blaming Wright. But our draw with Boro was 1000% his fault and he just hasn't looked sharp in the games he's played. Definitely a liability. I'm not asking for greatness. I am asking for competency. Stop the easy ones and let the defense do their jobs.

To be honest I havent seen him play, and my comment was meant more as a generalisation than Everton specific. Seems everywhere I look at the moment there are keeper articles and whatnot.

Was just watching a talk show on Sky with David Seaman being interviewed. Focused on the WC howler, plus a few howlers from about 10 years ago with Arsenal. Neatly skimming some of the truely wonderous saves he made for club and country, not to mention his excellant record with penalties...

Good goalkeeping is one of my biggest thrills of football. Sure it's nice to see someone score a cracker, but it's even more fun to see someone stop the impossible. And to be honest, I haven't seen that in the Premiership. I'm a bit surprised, really. Obviously the emphasis is on scoring, but I'd just love to see some young keeper come in and stop the Thierry Henry's of the world. That's one way that clubs like Everton can be competitive.

I go against popular opinion here and say that if a keeper makes some spectacular leap across goal to make the save, while it looks fantastic, it actually makes him a bad keeper in my book.

I tend to think that a good keeper is in the right position in the first place and simply has to take the ball from the air - no fuss.

A lot of gooners are on Lehmanns back at the moment, citing that they cant recall one exceptional save hes made. I tend to priase him because I cant remember one exceptional save hes made. Hes usually in the right place to begin with. Recent form not withstanding of course. Hes made some high profile blunders of late - no doubt...

Interesting theory, and I think I agree with you. You're right, if he's in the right position in the first place it will look effortless. The thing that I think is missing from the Prem, however, is a keeper who can stop the ones that nobody expects him to stop. Not the ones where he's caught out of position and manages to get back, making it look harder than it should have been, but the ones that shouldn't have been stopped in the first place.
