I get more confused each year how people vote for Henry again.

I would probably drop Buffon, Cafu, Nesta and Ronaldinho. The voting in this is highly suspect because people are only voting for their favourites and by reputation. If you compare the player achievements over that year, those listed above do not merit a place in the team.

Drop Nesta and Ronaldinho? Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
I would put Zambrotta in for Cole, but Cole's a great player also. But what the HELL is Cristiano Ronaldo doing there?

Ayala and Micoud achieved more.

Ayala and Micoud achieved more.
 Achieved? Roque Jr. has won a World Cup and a Champions League. So what? Ronaldinho is a better player than Micoud. And Ayala, while a great defender, is not as good as Nesta. Yes, the Che won the UEFA Cup. Milan won the Italian league and got to the quarters of the CL. And Nesta is a lot better.
What exactly did Cronaldo "achieve"? The only thing he's won has been the FA Cup. Ooooh, I'm impressed.

What point? That you happen to think Cronaldo deserves to be on the UEFA team of the year despite mediocre performances for ManUtd at best? You haven't made it yet. Don't worry though, its implicit. As is your blatant bias toward anything ManUtd.
And you haven't made a single point that suggests to anyone you know what you're talking about.

If you don't know the point, then you are in a worse position than I had originally thought. How about this for a suggestion? We post all of the names available for selection by position and then debate the merits of each one. Then we will know exactly where we both stand on the issue. Let's see how many we can agree on.

Buffon, Nesta, and Ronaldinho deserve their spots.

I've given my opinion on Cronaldo before. He had a good, not great, Euro. He has been mediocre at best this year for ManUtd. I would definitely take Giuly ahead of Cronaldo, as I would Juninho Pernambucano. I would also wonder if we're restricted to RMs since we have Nedved AND Ronaldinho up there.
As for what my team would be?
----------------Buffon
Seitaridis----Nesta----Carvalho----Zambrotta
Gerrard-----Ronaldinho-----Nedved-----Deco
------Sheva--------------Adriano
For the calendar year, that's about right to me.
Its not a team that would play well together, but neiter would the UEFA one.
P.S. Since this is a calendar year, Vicente just misses out because he's spent so much of this Valencia campaign injured.

Maybe if I talk in sophistic circles, no one will notice that I'm a ManUtd homer and wouldn't know football if it kicked me in the groin. What was my point again?
Proper fixed.

Gerrard is not in the options for right-midfield. You cannot have both Deco and Ronaldinho. From the Uefa options, here is my team:
------------------Baia
Seitaridis----Ayala----Carvalho----Cole
Ronaldo-----Maniche-----Micoud-----Nedved
------Sheva--------------Henry
Baia might not be technically as good as Buffon, but he has impressed in all competitions and for that, I feel he just edges Buffon out. What did Buffon do this year anyway? I stick with Cole because he impressed for both club and country. Ayala was a key player for Valencia and Argentina. He might have missed a bit through injury, but his overall performances put him just ahead of Nesta in this team.
Ronaldo keeps his place through some impressive performances for both club and country during the year. Giuly should be considered, but he did nothing for France. Maniche had a great year and fully merits his place. Micoud is the underdog in the midfield options, but he was crucial for Bremen and inspired them to an unexpected domestic double. Ronaldinho might be the best in the world, but what Micoud achieved puts him ahead in my opinion. Vicente was great, but I agree about the injury point. For that, Nedved takes his place.
Henry and Sheva were the only options in my opinion. Henry was poor in Europe fullstop, but had an incredible end and start to the season. That just enables him to retain his place.

Of COURSE I can. Cronaldo, Ronaldinho and Nedved can't fit into a midfield. So why do you get to gerrymander now?
There is no possible way Cronaldo actually deserves a spot in a UEFA midfield of the year. Any subsequent discussion is irrelevant. Micoud's team did fcuk all in Europe. And he did fcuk all for France. So how the hell do you put him in your side ahead of Ronaldinho who's Barca rose from the dead, who starts for Brazil, which are second in CONMEBOL qualifying. Winning the German league is that impressive all of a sudden?
And the moment you complain I'm taking CONMEBOL into play, read your description of Ayala. He just "edges" Nesta - what a joke. Nesta is by far the best defender on the planet, and Ayala's "accomplishments" are of the same variety. Their teams had excellent years, and Nesta is the better player.
As for Henry - Adriano has had an amazing end to last season, an amazing start to this season, and won the Copa America almost singlehandedly. On a calendar year, yes, he's ahead of Henry.
