on his official site.

The Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam "Mido" confirmed to Mido99.CoM that he is preparing to leave Rome to join the English Premier League team Tottenham in the next few hours.

Tottenham was Mido's 1st choice as he believes his style suits that of Spurs. Tottenham currently stand in the top half of the league, managing to wrap up 33 points from 23 games leaving them in 8th place, seeking for European football next season.

"The deal will be confirmed in the next few hours, but the contract hasn't been signed yet." Added the Roma player.

Finally Mido ended his announcement by asking his fans to stay tuned on Mido99.CoM for more exclusive coverage on the move.
Has had a reputation in the past for a dodgy attitude, but also has a lot of talent.

think its a loan, but might be an option to buy as well or even a permanent transfer.

I hope it's a loan signing. Anyway, there's no way the guy is gonna go around upsetting people with Martin Jol around. He'll have no teeth left!!

Anyway, should be interesting to see if he'll get a game. As far as i'm aware he's a centre forward and we've got a few of those. However, i bet he's better than Edson Silva

Hopefully it is a loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

2003/2004 O. Marseille played 22 scored 7
2002/2003 Celta Vigo played 8 scored 4
2001/2002 Ajax played 16 scored 9
2000/2001 Ajax played 24 scored 12
1999/2000 Gent played 21 scored 11
1998/1999 Zamalek played 4 scored 3

So the longest he has spent at 1 club was 2 seasons with Ajax.

He's 6'2" & is almost 22

Good scoring record though and he's won plenty of awards according to his website. Not sure if he's figured out that spurs is a jewish club yet though....

Good signing, we need a 4th striker and i know he might have a attitude problem but i'm sure Jol can sort that, he has a lot of talent and i hope he uses it for us :)

I like it, especially is Kanoute is still struggling with injury.

The current 3 strikers can all argue correctly that when healthy they deserve first team football. Are we gonna see Defoe out there every week with a different partner and a different sub coming in based on who we play or...? If Mido forms an effective strike force with DeFoe; Kanoute and Keane are gonna be wanting out to a team that'll start them regularly this summer. Its a nice problem to have however.

I'm not exactly opposed to the move (I put my full trust in Frank), especially if its a loan, and his height is certainly a plus. I just think we need more help in midfield or even the back line first...

I think if he does come in then he will have to start on the bench unless Fredi is injured. If Fredi plays like he has been, Mido will have a long wait on the bench. I like the idea of having 2 small forwards & 2 big forwards

Jol said on Sky Sports that Mido would be 4th choice striker. I think hes telling him if he wants to play for us he would have to fight to get into the team. Southampton are also interested.

Does anyone know how long Freddie's gonna be out for? It's a torn hamstring so can be potentially problematic. Mido will definitiely get chances, particularly as Jol will have noted how Defoe and Keane struggled to get anything going against Chelsea. We'll need his physical presence in the absence of King Kanoute

Freddie said on his website today that he expects to be back in training on monday. however the club were expecting him back two weeks ago and it just keeps persisting.

Mido said today that he had spoken to Frank and that he knows that he's "not arriving as a big star but my role is to help the team qualify for European competition". if he is willing to stick to that, then that would be great. As freddie's backup I think he'll get more chances to play at centre forward than he would get at Roma, but he'll get a lot less chances to play than he would at Southampton.

It seems Mido has his heart set on us, but i heard southampton were offering a guarantee of him starting every match when fit.

Yeah - I was about to post that too Sendorange...

Tottenham appear to have won the battle to land Egyptian international Mido after the striker pledged to join the club.

The Roma frontman is set to make Tottenham his sixth club in as many years.

The 21-year-old was also the subject of a late bid by Southampton, but he agreed to join Tottenham after talks with the club's sporting director Frank Arnesen.

Jol had earlier confirmed his interest in Mido, and it is understood that while the negotiations are primarily linked to a loan deal until the end of the season, a permanent switch has not been ruled out.

The news comes as a welcome boost the day before Tottenham travel south of the Thames to take on Palace, where a win seems imperative to boost their UEFA Cup chances.

While it would seem highly unlikely that Mido could sign in time to face Palace, his arrival will ultimately give Jol a fresh option in attack.

Jol would have liked Mido in his squad, given that Kanoute is likely to miss out.

He has not played since New Year's Day due to injury, and Kanoute's absence is likely to mean that Keane and Defoe are paired together at Selhurst Park.

Needing international clearance before Tottenham can select him, Mido declared himself delighted at being poised to help Tottenham's attempt to qualify for Europe.

"I have spoken to Frank Arnesen and he has convinced me to join them," said the former Marseille and Ajax man. "I know I will not be arriving as a big star but my role is to help the team qualify for European competition.

"I already know Fredi Kanoute and Noureddine Naybet from African matches and will help me to adapt. It is a great opportunity and I will treat it as a professional challenge. I do not think I can fail with Spurs."

Yeah but would really want to play for Southampton eh?
It's gonna take Freddie a while i reckon to get back to full fitness, he's done no running for nearly 3 weeks now and will have lost a lot of sharpness. Personally i reckon Mido will go straight into the team next week if he signs and is fit enough

It's on icons.com -- has a load of footballers websites and kanoute's is one of them.

you have to log in, but just press space once in the username and then again in the password. that does the trick ;)

I've kept quiet about this one since it first came out, but my thoughts are pretty much the same as everyone else's. He's unquestionably talented, and exactly the type of target forward we need, yet, I'm very disappointed that we're adding him, because he has a catastrophic ego and attitude that can single-handedly get a manager fired and destroy all team chemistry. I am not looking forward to bringing him to the Lane. Sheesh, why are we actively seeking the players with the worst reputations? Can we get no others?

I also hear that if Routledge does sign with us, we'll lose Davies. Man, I know he's having a horrific season, and has been blase for a couple years now, but Simon Davies is extremely talented, and I just know he'd be the latest to shine the moment he leaves Spurs.
