Looks like CRAP. As a 4 and Ultimate Fantastic Four fan I'm a bit disappointed. The fx look terrible.

Really? I thought it looked pretty good even though I'm not a huge fan of the FF. Is that the comic book origin of Victor Von Doom though? He wasn't up there with them was he?

Wow this really looks like crap. Aside from the obvious FX crappyness, their choice of actors is really bad. Jessica Alba? Chiklits? They really blew this one. They either didnt know what they hell they were doing or couldnt afford anyone better.

Really bad trailer, the movie still could be ok.

If Mr. Fantastic can stretch his arm under a door to open it then why doesn't he just stretch his entire body under the door? Johnny Storm looks like crap, the Thing? don't get me started out crappy he looks, not to mention how short he is. Sue? umm, no thanks. Alba's hot and all, but she's not a Sue Storm. Not to mention how they've totally butchered Dr. Doom's story. ugh, a steaming pile of crap as bad as Daredevil.

As someone that grew up reading the Fantastic Four, and still reads 4 and Ultimate Fantastic four, the movie looks like ass. But the fanboy in me will make me go see it.

i'll wait til it comes out on dvd like everything else

it would take something special to get me to a movie theatre

first new star wars did that (and i learned from that one, oy that was bad)... i think x-men might have (can't remember)

Huge fan here, too, of all comic books. But they just haven't translated well on-screen to the point that I don't see any in the theatres. Only comic hero done right on the silver screen was Batman and that is mostly for the over-the-top performance of Nicholson...

That was far better then I was expecting after reading the short thread. Early preview equals rough effects, they will be cleaned up. YOu notice they didnt focus on them much.

i expect some Fantastic previews before july, pun intended, and this already looks better than Daredevil.

An early Mr. Fantastic might not have perfected his powers, or understand them well enough yet, to slip his entire body under the door. Good grief.

Way too early to decide one way or the other on this one.

Sorry, but I'm not buying the not understanding his powers enough excuse, he's doing his entire arm, well why not his body?

Also, any studio that released a trailer for a movie with the scenes not finished deserves any grief they get. You want people to say wow from the get go, not let's wait and see.

Not withstanding criticism of the potential of this which i cant comment on because i know nothing about the fantastic four, I think pretty much every studio does this, certainly for big films that are anticipated to be big draws and are still in post production when the advertising starts.

Not uncommon at all.

I was never a big fan of the original Fantastic Four but I liked the idea behind it. With the start of Ultimate Fantastic Four I got the chance to jump in at the start and I like it.

The trailer looks like crap. Since the first photo of Dr. Doom in costume came out I've thought that looks like crap. If the photos of the Thing are the finished product and they're not going to add any touch-ups in post then I have to say the Thing looks like crap also.

Overall I don't have high hopes for this.

In other Marvel comics being made into movie news Nic Cage has finally signed on and production is set to begin in March for Ghost Rider and Thomas Jane is beginning pre-production on a sequel to The Punisher.

Yes, it is uncommon to have the fx shots not complete in a trailer. This wasn't a teaser, it's a full fledged trailer. You don't see Lucas showing Vader in front of a green screen, or Stone putting in computer wire models in the Macedonians battle scenes. Trailers are supposed to be finished material. Same can be said for any of the LOTR trailers, they were all finished shots. I have yet to see a sci-fi, fantasy, comic etc. movie show a trailer and not have completed shots.

Anways, it's a useless argument, They've already stated that there will be no fx touch up for the thing. The plan on him looking as crappy as he does.

Wow, surprised how bad you guys think it looks. I honestly think it looks pretty good CG wise. I mean, I don't know how much you can do to make the Human Torch look like an actual fireball. I think the Thing looks a lot better than I would've expected. Dr. Doom looks a little crappy but who knows. Barely showed much of him in the trailer anyway.

I remember those fire chicks from the opening titles to Die Another Day... they were class.

Superman 1 & 2
X2
Hellboy
Spider-Man 2
Right on all 4 examples, especially the last one. I watched Spider-Man 2 again over Christmas and it's just a great, fun film. Nothing heavyweight but it does the comic book genre very well.

As for the trailer, it's hard to tell anything much from it, really, but if had to guess I'd say the movie looks like it's FX and not much else, which is always boring.

Superman 1 & 2
X2
Hellboy
Spider-Man 2
Haven't seen Hellboy, never read the comic, though I understand the movie is quite well done. Of course, since HellBoy is a much more limited release comic, the expectations and pressure aren't there.

Superman I obviously kick-started the comic as movie genre, but I didn't think much of the movie. Way too long spent on the backstory, the whole Fortress of Solitude origins are ticky-tacky and the death of Lois Lane seems better for a soap opera.

Really didn't like X2 either. Death of JG was good and the whole "who is really the enemy" angle was more subtle than I would have given anybody credit for, but we still haven't had much in the way of Xavier vs Magneto. Way too anticlimactic.

Haven't seen Spiderman 2. What makes it better than the first???

I think comic book movies are NEVER going to be like the comic book. But there is also a line people draw on how much it can be compromised. Superman for example twisted and skewed a few things but the bottom line is that it was a good movie and the character of Superman was still there.

X2 is the same there's lots of little things that are not quite there but I don't think you can ask for more. They need to make it simple enough and understandle enough for non fans to understand, if not theyll have to explain every little detail because people would be lost. The thing about X-Men tho is that they always knew they were going to make 3 movies so when you judge X1 or X2 you have to judge them as a whole and not as individual movies.

Spiderman also has alot of little things skewed. Like doesnt Peter Parker actually MAKE the web, and not shoot it out of his body? If I remember correctly thats why he became a photographer, to get money to make his web. ANd he also made special web from time to time. In the movie the web comes out of his body. In Spiderman 2 they shot a major scene in an elevated subways but there is no elevated subway in Manhattan.

Batman is a movie that went in the opposite direction and the first one and instead of continuing the story they got greedy and ruined the whole series. I dont think there was ever any REAL plans to make sequels and when that happens, other things and people influence the making of the sequels that may ruin the original vision.

I think that out of all the comic book movies, the Xmen series are the best and truest to its original comic book. Sure there may be some things missing or changed but as a whole its pretty much what you'd envision the movie to be like in terms of seriousness, attitude and characters. I just wish Wolverine hadn't gone all gey and broadway on us.
