The audition episodes in the early part of the season are usually the funniest part of the show. :D

I used to think so too, but really, you've see one crappy singer, you've seen them all:
1. Contestant belts out a horribly offtune version of an old Mariah Carey hit, exaggerated arm motions optional
2. Simon says something snarky, Randy tries to sound like a black guy, oh look at how the camera focuses on how uncomfortable Paula is!
3. Contestant is angry and accuses judges of jealousy.

Like the show itself, the audition episodes have gotten seriously tired. I mean, half the crappy singers know they suck but they know they can get on TV if they can suck memorably. The other half - they're just pathetic. They seriously think they can pursue a career in music, without ever having taken voice lessons or listened to themselves sing, and their friends, if they have any, won't tell them what they honestly think. They're so pathetic, I can't even laugh at them because my internal schadenfreude generator blows a fuse. It's all schaden, no freude, and there's no fun in that.

That said, I'll probably tune in every now and then once they're done dragging out the cuts.

I'm with you; once they get down to the actual contestants, it's like listening to a bunch of people audition for the Pensacola cast of "Phantom Of The Opera"

Yeah, and it's still a ratings machine. The show brings credibility to FOX even though it is a crappy show. All they need to do is show some The OC commercials during American Idol and things would be just fine ;)

There's no way I can watch any A.I. this season.

My little girl has been mainlining Sesame Street's "Zoe's Dance Moves" video this past month and the dance teacher is none other than the eating-disorderly-thin Paula Abdul.

On a completely unrelated and inappropriate sidenote to fellow parents out there (and I mean this in the most LGBT-friendly way): A good friend of mine says she can't stand Zoe because "she reeks of f@ghag."

Best part of the post.

At work we used to talk about the worst contestants around the water cooler and do our renditions of them. Some of us busted a gut that way. Good times... :D

I'm waiting for Jon Stewart to visit the show. Maybe he can help it like he helped Crossfire. They both hurt America.

I think this is a critical season for AI. The tallent level was far below the first two seasons (partially thanks to the American public). If they don't get someone on the level of a Ruben or Clay this season, this show will start to lose its buzz.

Agreed. I don't know what I hate worse, the self-aggrandizing promos or the show itself.

Ratings machine... People tune in to see the crappy singers. Ratings go down when they go to Hollywood. When they get down to the final 10 or so, ratings go back up.

Fox says "oh, look, we have a HUGE-MEGA-HIT."

I'd be interested in seeing how much of the TV audience is watching just to see people bomb out.

It's a horrible show. No surprise that my local Clear Channel station always plays "the overnight hit single" in the week after the final episode.

I liked that whazzis name from Sugar Ray told the 17-year-old that she was hot.

The funniest and most painful contestant I saw tonight was the overweight girl who though she was high class, but she looked like white trash. She really open herself up to all the stuff from Simon and, as he said, she dressed better than she sang.

How do you get on American Idol? I think my wife should try out. I went to the AI website but couldn't find anything.

These St. Louis people are awful. I can't believe they're from my city. Was nice to see Ozzie Smith's kid make it through though.

St Louis may have been one of the worst audition cities of all time. The two geeks at the end really cracked meup.
