I think everyone is trying to deny the fact that United played better than we did and blame the loss on Dudek.
Personally, I don't think that the loss is Dudek's fault. If we could make meaningful possesions then we would have won.

The loss falls on the team, but the mistake that led to our demise was the fault of Dudek, as it has been on numerous occasions.
I hear Chelsea have a decent keeper on the bench

Agreed, and I would be more than happy with Kirk playing week in and week out, if he could just stay healthy.

Dudek should be sold in the summer, imho. He was been shakey for a long time and has got to be 32-33 by now; in other words, he isn't going to get much better.
Kirkland on the other hand, is a great young keeper, imho. He is up there with whoever England has to offer and in 4-5 years could be one of the best in the world; his height is also a big advantage. His problem, however, is that he is unbelievably injury prone. He seems to play for 3 matches and miss 10 with injury, then return for 5 and with another 12, and so on. He is young though ,and don't forget the last very young player you had starting in a vital position for the team who had injury problems early on, he's the captain these days.

Still, it's way too early to tell with Kirkland and I don't think we'll know how good he can be until his body matures completely. I don't think (hope) that hasn't happened yet.

Look, the fact is, that Liverpool can't be a top club without a solid keeper, and neither Dudek nor Kirkland are capable of playing mistake free.

No. But neither are Roy Carroll, Manuel Almunia, Jens Lehmann or Tim Howard. However, all of these are playing on top teams. I see where you are coming from and indeed hope Man Utd upgrade in the summer, but you have more pressing needs, particularly on the wings. If you get two really good wingers and then a quick Cb in the summer, a keeper would be next on the list, in my opinion. If you can manage to get much for Dudek, however, it might be a good move to go for a goalie with that money (Robert Green would be a great pickup if Norwich go down).

Lehmann is decent, not great, but decent.

If your talking about bringing in a new keeper then I would like to see someone who has played on a winning side. Andy Gray brought up a great point when he said that sometimes it is easier for a keeper to play well on a losing side because he is always alert. But it is more difficult to play on a winning side because oftentimes you go without touching the ball for large periods of the game. Look at Kirkland. He was great when he played for Coventry but has been very shaky since we picked him up.
