Praise my club like mad. Oh and where have you been. Just put your first ever NUFC experience you can remember and why you support my club. I'll get the ball rolling sunbeams.
Manager. Ozzie Ardiles.
Stand. Newcastle Brown Stand.
Weather conditions. Absolutly freezing.
Match Result. Got beat.
Opponents. Cant remember.
Food at half time. Mince pie.
Overall standard of NUFC. ********.
That is why i love my team. Come on lads.

So i take it by that outstanding response. Not many Americans support my club. Well in a coupla years when we are winning everything. Dont jump on the bandwagon. Stick to Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Am just a bit fed up with mince pie. But its the only decent thing the ground had at the time. Today at NUFC you can get all sorts. Bovrall and chicken soup are my favourites. Like hell they are. Pints are the way forward. Get as many down your neck man. Then hurry home in a taxi. Quick as you like. And watch the highlights on the telly sunbeam.

Just put your first ever NUFC experience you can remember and why you support my club.
For me it started in 1982.
We didn't have much television coverage back then and the best you could do were scratchy World Service results or week old newspapers so I didn't have any strong ties to any club. We did have German football highlights and Kevin Keegan was my favorite there. When he moved back to Southampton, I didn't embrace them but his move to Newcastle made me pick them as my club of choice. It's been ups and downs since then following the lads via the newspaper, radio, television, and now the net.
My first trip to St. James' Park (1984): I set my plans to attend a match (Cambridge v Newcastle) on my way to the Orkney Islands late in that promotion season. What I didn't realize was that I was reading the fixtures list as Americans read the sports schedules NOT as they should be read. So, I arrived at noon in Newcastle, made my way to St. James' and waited. Nobody there as the match was in Cambridge. Oh well.
I missed out on another opportunity to see a match in the early '90s as a fixture was rescheduled.
When the 1994 World Cup Opener was played here in Chicago, I sat next to a Toon supporter (great old guy) and that sealed my bond with NUFC.
My first match (East Stand) was May of 2004 when NUFC drew with Wolves. Typically, it felt like a loss as Shearer had a late penalty saved and it followed the UEFA Cup exit earlier in the week.
Hope to make it back there later this year.
Full disclosure: I also support Torquay United (9th season).

Haven't been to St. James Park yet; one of these days I will. My first experience with Newcastle was watching them on cable here in the States. Twas around 1996/97 against ManU and couldn't forget the passion of the NUFC fans. Loved the broonale logo on the shirt. Checked up on them as much as I could. Remembered Dalglish in charge for a while unitl Gullit's "sexy football" arrived. Then SBR and success until last year. Liked Solano and was pissed Hamman slagged us off. And was told by a visiting NUFC fan that Peter Beardsley is a god.

When you come over. Let me know sunbeam. I will take you to the game and give you a roof over your head for a bit. No probs. And Peter Beardsly is welcome in my house anytime. That man was magic on the ball.
