Shahid Afridi came good at the end with an unbeaten half century off 26 balls to lift Pakistan to a score over 270.

Pakistan opened their account in the VB Series with a comfortable victory against the West Indies at the Gabba today. Chasing the West Indies total of 5 for 273, Pakistan cruised to the total with only 4 wickets down and 3 overs to spare. Wicket-keeper batsman Karman scored his first one-day century to help guide Pakistan to the total. Earlier in the day, Gayle made 82 and Sarwan 76 for the West Indies, while Shoaib Akhtar loimped off with a hamstring injury.
The next match is Australia vs West Indies (day/night) at the Gabba on Friday.

Australia were saved by the rain yesterday at the Gabba! :D
West Indies batted first and made 9 for 263 off their 50 overs, with Hinds scoring a century. Chasing a revised target of 195 off 28 overs thanks to the Duckworth-Lewis system, the Aussies crashed to 5 for 43 after 11 overs before the rain set in and washed out the rest of the game. There needs to be 20 overs for it to be a match, so both teams share the points.
The next game is on Sunday at the SCG, (day/night) between Australia and Pakistan.

Last year saved by the rain in Chennai, now this. Don't worry Australia, sooner or later rain won't be there to save you, and a deserved defeat will come your way. You're not as invincible as you've been made to believe.

I don't think the Aussies believe they're invincible, far from it in fact. We've not played at our best so far in the VB Series, yet we're still on top of the table and booked our spot in the Finals with an easy 9 wicket victory over Pakistan at the SCG yesterday thanks to some great bowling from McGrath with 2 for 18 off 10 overs and a century from Clarke opening the innings.

Pakistan have been utter crap. Too much infighting, and off-the-field distractions going on.

so i think its one more year left on the contract for the current VB Series. anyone have any ideas on how they could fix it? i say scrap the thing as a 3 team series. try and get 4 teams, make it a shortened 20/20 series with double headers each day and have it all complete in three weeks.
one of the visiting teams could be just wrapping up a tour of australia, the other just starting its tour, while the third could be a minnow country. or even sub in NZ for one of the first two mentioned spots. any feedback?

It was actually 156 runs from 138 balls, an amazing performance by one of the world's best batsman. Lara went from 50 to 150 in just 55 balls.

Why would we need to fix it? The contract will either be renewed or they'll get another sponsor to take over, but the format should stay relatively the same. In fact, there's less games this year because they needed to fit a 3 match series against New Zealand in as well this summer. Normally each team plays 8 games before the finals, this year it's only 6.

With just 2 games remaining in the preliminary matches, Australia have already qualified for the Finals. Whoever wins between Pakistan and West Indies in Perth on Tuesday will be Australia's opponents for the best of three Finals. Australia plays Pakistan in Perth on Sunday.

from what i read, it seems like the current format is going to be scrapped. one suggestion rumored is that they will just extend the ODI series with the visiting teams.
anyways, i am looking fwd to being able to watch game 2 (and if theres a 3) live, as i will be in australia again (in the nice warm weather!).

Well, so Pakistan did have enough nerve to beat the Aussies in Australia. Good, good. Not that it mattered much to Australia. But, I was getting fed up with the predicatable one-sidedness.

a bit a surprise, even though the game meant nothing to the aussies. that being said, who ever wants to lose on their home ground
2.4 overs left, and 3 wickets- AUS 266 PAK 7/267 (http://cricket.com.au/portal/site/cricketaustralia/template.MAXIMIZE/menuitem.4a871880c089f6ed371ae9104420a2a0/?javax.portlet.tpst=803614c3b83d99e6ed499b1025d62dbc_ws_MX&javax.portlet.prp_803614c3b83d99e6ed499b1025d62dbc_viewID=content&javax.portlet.prp_803614c3b83d99e6ed499b1025d62dbc_docName=Tourists%20break%20through&javax.portlet.prp_803614c3b83d99e6ed499b1025d62dbc_folderPath=%2Fv7%2Fcricketaustralia%2FHomepage%2F&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=token&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=token)
young man clarke had 75-not out off 75 balls (and the only six)
McGrath had a good day bowling 10ov. 2 maidens, 27 runs, 2 wickets
so now its the decider between PAK/WI on feb.1 to see who plays Australia in the final

Pakistan have beaten Australia 4 out of 4 times at the WACA Ground in Perth which is not a bad effort considering they were thrashed there in the test match.
Tuesday's game between Pakistan and the West Indies is basically a semi final, with the winner to take on Australia in the best of 3 finals starting on Friday.

Well, I think you spoke too soon.
im sick of Australia winning all the time
So am I.
I hate to tell you, but Pakistan are on the brink of a defeat right now - 156/7 with 82 runs required in 11 more overs. That would be a miracle. Not that I like Pakistan at all, but I don't see Australia losing this one now.
