Well to be fair, I believe that was back before black artists were allowed on MTV.

Mario Adds Another Billboard No. 1 (http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000788542)
Billboard appear to have changed their chart methodology this week. They will now take into account paid downloads of songs, which explains why Green Day moved up this week. They also have a new chart called the Pop 100 chart, and well as the Pop 100 Airplay chart. Apparently it will measure how "mainstream" a song is, much like how they already have a "Modern Rock" chart and a "Mainstream Rock" chart.
10) Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson
9) Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson
8) Drop It Like It's Hot - Snoop Dogg f/Pharrell
7) Disco Inferno - 50 Cent

Kelly Clarkson (is she one of the "American Idol" winners?) has two songs which are new to the top 10? Did they get released at the same time, or is one of them older or something?
Back in the day (e.g. 1983), an artist would only release one song as a single at a time, in order to not compete with himself, think Michael Jackson's Thriller which had seven Top 10 hits, but only "Billie Jean" and "Beat It" were in the Top 10 simultaneously, and that was when one was on the way down and the other was on the way up.
Oh yeah, I haven't heard any of these songs, except "Disco Inferno", and not the 50 Cent version.

I've heard the Clarkson, Since You (two more letters you lazy) Been Gone, it's an Interpol/Yeah Yeah Yeahs ripoff/omage but it's decent.

Mario's Valentine: 'Love' Still Rules (http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000798120)
Mario continues his reign at number one, while Green Day is up to third. FYI, the last rock song to reach the top slot was How You Remind Me, so it's been a while. But the big story is 50 Cent, who has two songs in the top ten and features on another. Candy Shop took a huge leap and looks like it will soon reach the summit.
10) Drop It Like It's Hot - Snoop Dogg f/Pharrell
9) Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson
8) Candy Shop - 50 Cent f/Olivia
7) Soldier - Destiny's Child

4) How We Do - The Game f/50 Cent

Did I, like, miss the apocalypse again?
Nelly and Tim McGraw? Are Brooks and Dunn cutting an album with Courtney Love, too?
I think Busta Rhymes and his cousin LeAnn Rimes ought to record an album of duets.

I'm shocked. This coming from the guy with "Indie Rock!!!!!!!!" below his name?

I almost never listen to top 40, but I did hear "Since U Been Gone" yesterday. I don't hear any Interpol in it, but the guitar part during the bridge has "Maps" written all over it.

Indie Rock is an extremely respectable genre of music that is more subtle than most other genres. Initially, not many people like it, but it slowly pulls you in with its unique identity.
Let me put it this way, I could listen to a good indie song hundreds of times and never get bored. But if you listen to a top 40 song, after the initial catchiness, there are no other layers to the music and you ultimately get tired of it. "Good" music, (I also listen to bands such as Reagan Youth) has much more lasting appeal.

I never thought I would say this, but that song is probably the best out of any recent top 40 song. My problem with it is that it's completely ripping off good bands, but since no one that listens to top 40 has heard of bands like Interpol, then they think it's a new sound.

I'm almost certain that the opening chord to Since U been gone is the same as the opening chord to Slow Hands just played slower. I think both songs also are in a minor key, at least to start.
