espn was wrong.

i just called USSF and spoke to jim moorhouse....totally picked up the phone...i was shocked...

anyway...here's the gist of what he said.

USSF said they'd agree to Mediation if the players agreed to a no-strike provision for this year. They refused. USSF will be calling in replacement players which will be announced today.

Players are getting 10 million, USSF offered 14 million, Players want 21 million.

Sounded like a nice guy. fwiw.

I'm sick to my stomach again. i'm behind the USSF on this. apparently, they went to the players twice.

Aw, crap. That explains the vague story having been pulled down.

I hope you're wrong, stinky, but my stomach just sank on reading this post.

Ugh.

if there is going to be a camp in Carson at this point, i imaginie it would be replacement players that are called to there.

it will be very interesting to see who shows up.

my phone hasn't rung yet, and i haven't gotten an email, but i don't know the official invitation proceedure.

The players would play against T&T, it's just that the fed won't let them play if they can strike any time.

Suck it Mexico still

I spoke to Jim as well. Said the players rejected USSF's offer twice in one week.

Total BS that the players won't agree to a no strike provision. The players are trying to hold this whole process up by keeping the threat of striking the day before a qualifier hovering over the heads of the USSF.

What about the Februrary 1st deadline? Why aren't they working like madmen to try and get a resolution?

I really just don't know what to think or who to trust anymore. I'm done.

He has made that point in at least one of the stories floating around this week. I'm a little shocked it hasn't been discussed around here more. A bit specious, no?

yeah...but he said it tongue in cheek. like, hello, if we give you what you're asking, we'd have to cut back on our youth programs.

Won't agree to binding arbitration to end this thing

Won't agree not to strike

Umm...what other leverage do they have?

If they give that up, they have no negotiating power. That's how negotiations work.

I'm tired of this "I'm behind the players" or "I'm behind the USSF" crap. Both sides almost always are partially right and partially wrong, and they both need to be willing to bend.

Whoever's spin you hear, that's the side that sounds more reasonable.

Has any sports union ever agreed to a no-strike clause in the history of the universe?

The players are the ones not negotiating at this point.

I don't buy any of this. I don't buy that they have kissed and made up. I don't buy that the players are pulling some sort of stunt. I don't buy that the USSF has suddenly opened its wallet and mind.

Why would Moorhouse tell random people on the phone all this stuff, yet not give a comment either way to ESPN?

I don't believe a deal is done. I don't believe a deal is dead.

Then agree to the god damn arbitration
