Ferguson uses up all the entire season money to buy Rooney. Is he really worth the heavy price tag? After a spectarcular debut, other than red card and violent conduct.Nothing hype or the expected performance is achieved.
I think a lot of Man Utd fan who r Rooney supporter begin to doubt his abilites.I personally think Rooney will follow Owen path, achieved success too young and suffer a drop in form. The question is will he be up to the challenge and regain his form from low?

Rooney is young, young young--as he's already scored spectacular goals in big matches.

You never know until later whether a player was worth the money, but I doubt anybody at Man U is kicking themselves for landing the most promising English player in years.

I think it can be argued that Rooney was worth the money and wasn't.

Rooney could very well go on to being the best forward in the world, but Man U did already have Ruud, Smith, and Saha, so another forward wasn't their biggest priority.

Most likely for this season and maybe next it won't be worth it, but from beyond then it probably will be.

When he gets older his performances might be more regular. Right now it's natural to see ups and downs a lot, especially with all the pressure on him to perform.

Yes he is worth it, He has a lot of talent as you all may know, he might of only scored 4 league goals but he didn't start his first league game until the end of october so he missed 2 months of the season and + he has been suspended recently, you're also paying for his years, say if you have Rooney for 10 years, 27million on Rooney for 10 years or something seems like a very good deal, he'll be back on form, and he aint really a goalscorer eather, he's more of a playmaker but i think his good Euro 2004 did raise expectations on him but you have to remember he's only 19 and he aint the finished artical yet and still as a fair bit to learn, i personaly have thought he has played pretty well this season. I think he's like played 12 games and scored 4 goals and if ya enclude the champions league its something like 16 games and 7 goals so its not that bad ya know and has a good scoring record for England too :D. Man Utd have done well in the transfer market in getting him.

rooney is worth the money, do u watch every man utd game?, ok he hasn't scored alot of goals but he isn't an out and out striker, more of a totti type player, i've said this b4 but it is true, since his signing man utd have shot up the league and qualified for the cl 2nd round, he is worth it now and will certainly be worth it by the time he leaves man utd.

Put it into context people, 11 players kicking a pig sack around a pitch worth up to £50mill  but that is the world we live in now. It's all about the talent though. It's an investment with Rooney, £45m for Zidane, top player, instant results. £30m for Rooney, potentially top player, long term resuts. The lad blew onto the scene in the Euro's playing the game that Everton had taught him....sit up front, get the ball score, great.....but hardly Mr. Determination when he did'nt. At United, shown to it's best against Chelsea in the Cup, his all round game has developed and he's now passing the ball with distinction, tackling back and although this was one game in many, seemed to show a glimpse of sell control. Un fair to say the jury is still out on the lad, but do see the move to United as being a very good decision by the yound lad.

I think he should've stayed at Everton another 2 seasons. He would be 20 then which is still very young.

I realize realistic analysis is not looked favorably upon on this forum but I'll give it a shot.

Rooney isn't a normal purchase. The same way Rio wasn't a normal purpose (that will be my analogy). At the time people thought Sir Alex was crazy for signing Rio for that sort of money, but just look at Man Utd's form the past two seasons with and without Rio. Looking at it there is absolutley no doubt that Rio is currently Manchester United's MVP, his importance to the team cannot be underscored and probably only Terry is of similar class in the EPL.

The thing about transfers for young players like Rio/Rooney/Reyes ,to name a few in the EPL, is that you don't simply judge the transfer by its "present value" you also judge it by its "future value". Rooney will probably be at Man Utd. for 15 years, and only after those 15 will we know whether the transfer was worthwhile. Personally? I think it was a forced move by Sir Alex. Obviously with his attacking depth he would have preferred to wait a while before aquiring Rooney, but Newcastle's interest and Everton's eagerness to cash in forced his hand.

Time will tell if it was a good decision or not.
