Typical...just god damn typical.
You know what the worst part is, the match is on a 1 day delay as ESPN 2 will be broadcasting it on Wednesday when the Match is live on Tuesday.
ESPN2 will not cover any matches on Tuesday.
I mean, if they are gonna show are match...show it live please.
Check it out and go to February 23rd as ESPN 2 will not show it on 22nd.

ESPN generally only shows 1 CL game per week. This is a joke. Are they afraid that broadcasting a second or third game will cut into their riveting bull riding, darts, or billiards coverage?

Yes, ESPN is afraid of showing too much soccer, this is nothing new. The ESPN execs know that soccer is the world's most popular sport, with only the U.S, Canada, and Australia being the main exceptions, and it scares them to death to think if soccer would someday surpass American football and baseball in popularity in the U.S. So what better way to control its growth in this country by never promoting it on the network, no daily highlights, etc. Soccer is already the most participated sport among young children in the U.S., and ESPN still pretends its a "niche" and defends their anti-soccer mentality by spreading the false myths that it "doesn't bring in enough ad revenues" and that its just "a woman's sport". What are we stupid? That's why your more likely to see highlights of a squirrel water-skiing or a pig race on SportsCenter than soccer highlights from around the world including our own league, MLS.
But you know... in an ironic way, ESPN's suppression of soccer on Americans is actually making it grow faster, I believe. The fact is, when you suppress something on people, they want it even more, especially in this case. Also, the curiousity factor grows because the sport is not over-saturated all over the media like American football. Many guys are sticking to soccer or turning to it for the first time because its one of the few remaining sports that hasn't adopted the notion that the sport is "entertainment" or a "product".
Either way, my advice...

That's idiotic. Boycotting ESPN will let them do this stuff more often. Watch as much soccer on ESPN as you can!

MiamiAce hints at a good point in that when ESPN shows the World's Strongest Farm Animal competition, it can at least sell advertising time throughout the show, whereas at halftime we all go get a beer, go to the toilet, get another beer, etc until the second half starts.
Even if they are selling John Deer trucker hats to the farm animal crowd, it's probably more revenue than they are likely to generate by showing us soccer. And we're likely to TiVo these games due to their live broadcast time, where we'll fast forward through the advertising, instead of sitting in our 1970's wood-panelled living room on the heavy wool plaid sofa which is on the lime green shag carpeting in our propane heated double-wide trailer.

I'm sure this is a mistake on soccernet.com
No way that ESPN would show this game on a one day delay.
I don't recall they've done something like that in the past 5 years.
They blocked Wednesday for the CL game, and because of that, they probably going to show Chelsea vs Barcelona instead.

Believe it. It's also posted on ESPN's (http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvlistings/schedule?date=20050223&network=2) website. This fuking idiots are gonna show a one-delay game. Only one game per matchday, Madrid every fuking time, and now a delayed game! What the fuk are they smoking up there? IDIOTS!

On soccernet.com's tv listings, it says that the match is being shown live on Wednesday Feb. 23.
Do they think that no one will notice it's delayed? Is there a no-soccer on TV promotion going on up in Bristol, Conn? Are they a no-soccer community? While FSW is changing its name to Fox Soccer Channel and showing their committment to the growing and popularity of soccer in the US, ESPN is showing a delayed game of the most prestigious club competition in the world. That tells you how much ESPN cares about soccer. Bunch of fuking idiots. :D

Well, those fukers finally changed it. Now it's gonna be Man Utd. vs. AC Milan live on wednesday. Setanta chose Chelsea vs. Barca over Man U vs. Milan, so looks like this is definite and that's what ESPN2 will show.

Buddy, I think you take your conspiracy theories a littel too far. I agree that ESPN in my opinion, doesnt show enough soccer highlights or clips to consider itself the "worldwide leader is sports." I will also argue that the ignorant announcers often sarcastically show clips when they have them (Chris Bermin excluded).
But to think ESPN doesnt know about soccer and know how to make $$$ on it is rediculous. I just got back from BAhamas on vacation and all I saw was ESPN Deportes on TV and all they had was soccer highlights and ESPN driven intros and feeder. TO think ESPN cant put together a good show is foolish. They can, they do currently. There presentation was much better than FSW and I believe if soccer continues to grow, it is an easy cossover to introduce those clips (in english) to the regular ESPN/ESPN2....
In other words, they are serving an active nitch and preparing themselves in case they feel a need to flip it to an US market.

Well, if you don't like ESPN's choice, send them an e-mail a day. Man. United - Milan is a good pick, but not an option for me. I just don't pay $40/month for cable TV anymore. Instead, I'm using cable broadband and tuning into Barça - Chelsea as soon as it's available on UEFA's site.
EDIT: My, oh my! Even ESPN Deportes subscribers got (minorly) screwed out of Barça - Chelsea. That game won't be on until 11:30 Wed. night. Yikes!

I knew there is no way ESPN would show a CL game in a one day delay basis.
Now they changed their Tv listings to Manchester vs AC Milan on Wednesday.
I think this is much better, but still there is something to change since ESPN deportes is broadcasting the game live as well.
ESPN tends to brodcast two different games live in it's two channels.
So I think that chelsea vs Baracelona will move live either to ESPN2 or ESPN deportes while the other channel will air the Man United vs AC Milan game.

But you know... in an ironic way, ESPN's suppression of soccer on Americans [/B]
soccer is suppressed on Americans? Once again, this senseless
"1 CL telecast on ESPN2" == "no soccer televised in America"
raises its ugly head again and again when a CL matdhday approaches...
There are 20-30 games of foreign soccer telecasts in America every week, from Univision, Telemundo, FSW, FSE, GolTV, not to mention all the MLS, USMNT, World Cup, etc. televised on ESPN/ABC and MLS Shootout...
Or are you trying to tell us that the only channel you have on your TV is ESPN2 that it's your only source of watching soccer?
This kind of lies from the few of you (you know who you are) will be shot down again and again,....

He he he.
In 2000 we were up in Niagra falls for vacation.
The Hard Rock cafe was showing plenty of the Euro comp.
To this day i haven't been able to convince my wife that it was all purely co-incidental ;)

Once again, you miss the point and attack other posters while doing so. Don't be such a literalist. The thread is about the relative lack of CL games to the US viewing public. One post makes a generalization, and sure enough, here comes rangers00, all forthright and blustering to "put him in his place." Well done, sir! Now don't you have some bittorrented match to squint at on your computer screen? Bye!
