I am 16 and have an average build.I play as a striker and am average/a little above average where my speed is concerned. My stamina is good.i would like to lose a little weight as i feel this may benifit my speed. It would be great if i could hear personal experiences, training programs, diets, etc to achieve my aim.I don't know if you know who Lee Trundle(Swansea) is but i am often compared to him in my style of play and posture.Anything that anyone has to say, even if you don't think its helpful, would be great as i really would like to hear others experiences and ideas. Thanks a lot

Hey, I'm almost 16 too. I don't know much about diets but I can suggest you to avoid fatty food such as McDonalds's burgers and other junk food. No matter how fit you are it will cost lots of problems later in your 40s or close to this age. My coach also told us to eat more food containing carbohydrates (bread, pasta, bran cookies, potatoes) the day before the game because it gives you a lot of extra energy. Well, I think that's it.

with diets i can tell you this:
many people will come at you with their diets claiming science backs up their version of the best way to eat.
a million doctors and nutritionists cant agree on the best diet because everyone is different and their needs are different,
starting from the fundamentals:
1. stay away from overly processed food, and foods containng partially hydroginated vegetable oils, there are no redeeming qualities about these foods health wise
2. limit your refined sugar intake, we get plenty of sugar from fruits and juices, no need to add more in the mix
3. limit your intake of refined carbohydrates. by refined i mean white bread, white flour and pasta. you dont have to go on some atkins diet kick, but the fact is that overall northamericans eat alot of carbs, way more than europeans and it is not the best source of energy for the body because it doesnt stay in the body very long.
when your coach says load up on carbs the night before a game, the belief is that all those carbs will give you extra energy. this is completely wrong. your body can only store so much immediate energy (glycogen) before it begins to burn fat. 20 minutes of so of heavy running, you body begins going for fat,
all that extra carbs just spills over in your blood stream and gts eliminated.
docots say eating low carb is bad, and anything to extreme is bad, but alot of the carbs we eat are from bad foods like potatoe chips, mac and cheese and chocolate bars, and worst of all pop!!
4. eat lots of protein within reason, not just bacon and eggs, bt lots of beans and lentils and tuna fish, etc etc.
they say too much protein is bad for your kidneys but most of those studies were done on people with weak kidneys or combining lots of animal protein. moderation!!
5. eat as much fresh fruit and veggies as possible, cant go wrong wit that!!!
dont put that ************ salad dressing you buy at the grocery store on salads, use good olive oil and vinegar, just like europeans do!!
6. ease off on too many sports drinks, they have a ******** load of sugar, water them down or something.
7. drink lots of water
8. ease back on drinking too much milk, it aggravates acne... hey i figure youre 16 and i remember my face at that age too!! ha!!
good luck, and talk to your doctor about any diets!!!

Check out this thread. As a teen way back in the 1970's I was a wrestler. I had no idea how to eat, and coaches new even less. My adult metabolism was completely screwed up, likely because of my starvation episodes as a teen. Had I, or anyone else, known about this eating regimen life would have been easier.
I followed the Zone to the letter last winter and lost about 18 kg. w/out any undo physical training. After the first few weeks the confusion over balancing the foods gets wasier to manage.

dont drink a lot milk before you do anything that has to do with sports because of lactic acids. i found that out the hard way.

Lactic acid is not a big deal if you warm down. I can't live without drinking milk at least five times a day but it doesn't affect my performance at all.
