View Full Version : Fourth Round Match

Please forgive my ignorance.

I am considering travelling from the US for the Fourth Round match vs. Sheffield United (especially since I just read that Pardew wants more noise from fans). I have never been to an FA cup match and I figure that there is no time like the present. To get the really good deals on flights though, I have to buy them before I will be eligible to get a match ticket. Is it likely that I will be able to get a ticket after all the season ticket holders get their chance to order them? If not, I assume that there will always be scalpers around, what could I expect to pay them for a ticket? Any advice on what area to get a ticket for? I am used to the supporters areas in MLS and US A-League matches which tend to be general admission and standing areas. What is the equivalent at Upton Park? I plan on getting a hotel nearby, what are the West Ham supporters pubs in the area?

Again, apologies for being clueless about this, any help appreciated.

I hope you get there.

Hotel should be easy the club has a hotel at the ground. Book early, you have to vacate match days but can get back in about 7.30 pm.
On the corner of Barking road and Green street is the boleyn pub. All pubs in the area have hammers regulars though.
Tickets through the club should be easy to get. Its unlikely to be a sell out as its not one of the top clubs in the prem. The ground is all seater now i hear varied views on where is best. I used to stand in the north bank but now travel from Australia if i go to games.
Claret50 is the expert but try pie and mash at nathans on the barking road.

up the hammers

There's plenty of pubs to choose from, my favourite one is the Hammers on the Becton road, it's not listed here though, it's about a 15-20min walk,(depending on how many you've had) from the ground. http://www.westhamutd-mad.co.uk/news/loadsngl.asp?cid=EDB3
Good luck!

I should've said High Street South, East Ham, but it's on the way to Becton.

You shouldn't have any problems getting a ticket for the game. The attendance v Norwich was only 23,000 (6,000 were Norwich fans). That's about 11,000 empty seats. Many ST holders don't go to these games because they have to pay for the tickets.

There are plenty of local travel inns and the like in the area, about a 10 min drive from the ground, do a search on Hotels Barking Creek A406 . If you want something a bit posher, look for deal in the docklands area, its easy access to the city and then to Upton Park.

As for pubs, there is The Boylen, The Hammers, The Denmark (for gods sake dont go to the Central or the White Horse) in the area.

I would give myself a good hour to get to the ground if in a car, as parking can get tight.

Tickets: I would book as soon as possible.

Have fun and Come on you irons.

I think you should be prepared for a bit of swearing and abuse (not sure what MLS crowds are like, but we can can get a bit vitriolic from time to time)

Oh, and supporters pubs are just about all of them on match days.

The Boleyn (corner of Green Street right next to the stadium) is the closest and it gets packed so arrive early. Same applies to The Central (Barking Road, I think)

Or the Black Lion in Plaistow High St if you're coming from that way or parking around there (good for a quick getaway after the game!), only about 10-15 mins walk from the ground...

(pub is actually on corner of High St/Richmond St)

Give 'em a cheer for me!

Get a hotel anywhere you can - the tube drops you off two blocks away at most. Have a great time and take loads of pictures.

Thank you one and all. I got a great deal on a flight, and a good deal on a seedy hotel within walking distance to the grounds.

Anyone have strong recommedations for which area to get my seat? I definately like getting rowdy in the stands.

the Bobby Moore Lower stand is probably where you want to be.

Be careful tho' . I was living in Green Street when I got married and went looking for a hotel on the Barking and Romford Roads. Half of em turned out to be knocking shops.
Arriving in East Ham Saturday morning. Team goes to Wolves to avoid me . Typical!
