Is it me, or do I get the impression that the folks in KC are finally seeing the light?
I've always been critical of the KC market, but if they can get this done, I will be very excited for the wizards and their future.
Question for someone in the know. If KC happens to garner support for a SSS, will Hunt think twice about dumping the team?

Question for someone in the know. If KC happens to garner support for a SSS, will Hunt think twice about dumping the team? Well, the media coverage has been almost uniformly good since "the problems" came around. It is an unfortunate but common phenomenon, though, that recognizing what you have only starts when you might lose it.
As for Hunt selling the team, it's primarily a) about the Chiefs and renovating Arrowhead for them (he doesn't think it possible to pull off both personally, and he might well be right), and secondarily b) a bit of a ploy to get attention to something that wouldn't get any attention otherwise. It would not shock me, if the dream scenario happened and both plans came through, that he could 'reverse himself' and keep the Wiz. But he can cross that bridge when he gets to it.

"But Schmid said players aren't looking beyond this tournament yet. Instead, he's looking for stars to emerge on the level of Galaxy striker Carlos Ruiz, whom Schmid unearthed at an U-20 tournament.
"(Fans) are going to see an offensive-minded team," he said. "For people who love soccer, watching the U-20s and watching qualifiers is a great thing to do because you can spot an early talent and that's a lot of fun.""
Must have learned from watching Steve Sampson.....

There was a rumor on Metrosports, a local sports station, that Hunt could reconsider selling the team if a stadium were built.

It is obvious that the reporter has "seen the light", but he could have known that for some time like most of the people on BS. The question is has the KC government seen the light and are the willing to pony up at lease 45 or 50 million.
In my opinion, this article has no news and changes nothing.

I agree that it changes nothing. But one thing that I think is becoming more and more apparent in these articles is the "Community Benefit" aspect of an SSS.
Im sure that the KC government wont be sold on just the stadium, but if there really is a need for soccer fields that could be used by the community as this and other articles suggest, then that could be enough to convince city officials to try and come up with something.
One thing's for sure, these articles citing the good aspects to a Frisco type complex are certainly better than no articles.

It just never moved forward for a variety of reasons. One being that Lamar wants someone else to pay for it. It apprears that that may indeed become a reality.

I guess my point is that there is more attention given to this in the media now then there was before Uncle Lamar put the team up for sale.
It goes along the lines of what Stan was saying. You don't know what you have until you are on the verge of losing it.
In the end, I guess better late than never.
I wish KC the best of luck. I've always felt that KC wasn’t worthy of an MLS team, but from everything I've been reading from the papers and this website, I definitely believe that "if you build it" they will come. And that KC can be one of the most successful franchises in the league in years to come.

I've always felt that Boston wasn't worthy of a MLB team, but now that they actually didn't choke, I believe the Red Pantyhose can be one of the most sucessful franchises in the league for years to come.

I swear on my life that if you said that to my face I would slit your freaking throat. The midwest has the absolute dullest sports fans in America. Could Cardinals fans in the World Series even muster anything more than polite applause? But they sure were out there in their red aren't they? Wow. Sure arrowhead gets loud eight times a year for the Chiefs, whoopty freaking doo. For all intents and purposes it's a one paper, one team backwoods, crap hole.

guys, thanks for the visceral response to my obvious trolling. However, us wizard fans feel the exact same way when people make uncalled for statements like that against us. We now both have the same emotions.

We now both have the same emotions. Which was completely uncalled for, if you ask me. Revs007's former opinion should not that much consequence to you, as he was trying to say that given a stadium, KC can establish itself.
Further, only one of the two of you resorted to immature namecalling to make the point. Had you deleted the words "not choke" and "Red Pantyhose," no one would have been "viscerally" insulted, which should tell you a lot about your sensitivities, not theirs.

alright, you've got a point on the pantyhose. But the choking?-- 80 something years proves different.

And besides, it's not a former opinion. It's a current opinion, based on if something happens it will change. And the irony is that he is slamming a KC team which had a higher home average attendance this year than the ethereal New England Revolution:
Kansas City Wizards 15 222,235 14,816
New England Revolution 15 183,385 12,226
http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/stats/index.jsp?club=mls
So, the wizards beat the Revolution by 2,600 people/game in attendance (with Boston being 5 times the metropolitian area), and has a higher record of success than the revolution, and KC is the area that's not deserving of a team?????

People seem to think that Lamar Hunt made a very public push for a SSS in KC similar to his efforts in Columbus and Dallas. The fact is he never gave near the effort in KC, probably because of the great deal he had with Arrowhead. Who knows how this would have panned out had he made such a public push in KC?
The midwest has the absolute dullest sports fans in America. Could Cardinals fans in the World Series even muster anything more than polite applause?
Ask Jarrett Jack how "dull" Allen Fieldhouse was on New Years Day. And do you think Cardinal fans are going to be real enthused when Jeff Suppan makes one of the most bone-headed baserunning errors of all time? It sounds like your only experience of watching games at Busch Stadium were those two games. A pretty pathetic sample of Cardinal Nation if you ask me.
