I just heard recently that they didn't like each other and that's why Friedel has only gotten a cap or 2 since the 2002WC. This could've been going on for years, but I just heard about it. Is that why Brad is never capped anymore?

Ya can't play two goalkeepers. I don't know that they dislike each other. But neither of them has the slightest patience for sitting on the bench when called into the national team.

The reasons Brad hasn't played much are due to a combination of personal and professional reasons. Brad missed some time due to injury. I also think he took a breather after his EPL GKOY season that left him out. Couple that with the fact that Bruce will rarely call both Friedel and Keller in - and things like this happen. Let's not forget that Keller hasn't really had much to do for the last 8-9 months other than play for the U.S.

I would think it has more to do with Friedel not wanting to compete for the job right now. I think you'll see his interest grow once we qualify. He's a paycheck player and only the WC payout is worth his time. At least that's my opnion.

If he does start sniffing around for the job after we qualify I hope Bruce tells him where to go.

I thought this started at the 2002 Gold Cup. In the warmups to WC, I heard that the two didnt talk to each other and I dont think they talk now.

Better to have to keepers not speaking to eachother than two midfielders or defenders or even forwards. They both can't play at the same time and if they are fighting luckily don't have to see eachother that often. Even though Friedel played pretty well at the WC it looks like the keepers that will be called up everytime for awhile will be Keller, Howard, and Walker which sounds pretty good to me.

Or maybe he considers himself a big game player. I can understand him focusing on Blackburn until the HEX. Shooting for Keeper of the year in the EPL is probably more important than a Gold Cup.

And it isn't as if Brad is hurting us by not playing, we have Kasey.

I look forward to another GK controversy in 2006. Willing to bet that if both of them want to play, Bruce will pick who is 100% the day before our first match.

I don't care if they hate each other. Just put the one in best form in the net in our opener in Germany.

1. Friedel has admitted to being a money player w/ a quote along the lines of, "I'm different than some of the other guys in that I know where my paycheck comes from."

2. He wasn't exactly getting huge paydays in 1994 was he? I don't see how he could have been because I have a 1996 Crew ball with his name signed on it.

Sorry if the truth hurts with Friedel. He's a great player but if he's not willing to do the dirty work with the rest of the team, he doesn't belong on the WC roster. Chemistry is very important.

It's not like the team is going to die without Brad, we've been fine every other game without him so suddenly the WC comes and then he's going to grace us with his presence? Bring Kasey and Timmy and you've got keepers who can handle pretty much anything that's thrown at the them.
