In accordance with the 'Italian music thread'. Just wondering whether people on BS like this. So, come out of the cupboards, you boys and girls...

Does the spanish guitar count? I like Ottmar Liebert's music. But he's Portuguese I think so that doesn't really count...?

Sure, we can count in Spain, Portugal and the whole of Latin America. What kind of music does he play? Flamenco?

Spain
Los Planetas - If they were to release an english language record, they would get some airplay. They're an awesome band.
Mala Rodriguez - Like a Spanish version of Lil' Kim without the skankiness. La Nina is her best song in my opinion.
Mexico
Cafe Tacuba - Pretty well known in the states. Great band.

Hmmm, I guess you can call it flamenco. You should DL "Barcelona Nights" or "Summer Flamenco" cause those are his more popular songs. He is great!

I'm a huge salsa fan. Ruben Blades "Live in New York" is still my alltime favorite album. Fania Allstars are also favorites.

Expand your borders, my friend. Manu Chao's an easy start but there's great other stuff too.
One of my favourite Latin albums is 'Mambo' from Yma Sumac. This already dates from the sixties and mixes mambo rhythms with a classical schooled female voice.

Speaking of guitars, nothing relaxes me more than Andres Segovia.

Great (slow) song in Spanish: the live version of 'la flacha' from Jarabe de Palo.

wow a thread on this? beautiful!
a lot of my non-Hispanic buddies dig the old school salsa...instead of hitting the tedious, usual bars in the city with them, i gave them a taste of some salsa spots and they had a great time to the music and the hot-a$$ chix there...
i still hit those spots but not as much...i drink and download music like crazy in my house...

I have this great version of the Astor Piazzola song 'Vuelvo al sur'. It can be found on St.-Germain des Prés café vol. 5 and was remixed by Koop. This song really makes you happy.

Anyone ever listened to the album of Muchachito Bombo Infierno? It came out in 2005 and is fabulous.
