Americans in France [Archive]

As far as I know there are just two americans in France. David Regis at Troyes and Greg Vanney at Bastia. Does anyone else know of others??? Even all the way down to CFA.

I think thats it. I really doubt their are any Americans in the lower leagues most Americans hate France(not me of course )so why would they want to play there. John O' Brien right didn't he grow up and train and play for amateur clubs in Holland I don't see any Americans doing that in France they'd probably rather go to England.

Onewyu (sp.), that is, "Gooch," is still training with Metz last I heard. One wonders whether France has as much luster to American international players because their league isn't held in as high a regard as La Liga, the Bundesliga, and the Premiership. That said, the French league is perhaps the fourth/fifth best one in Europe, it has proven lot of international players, and its teams regularly compete in the Champions League. I would think those factors would be attractive to an American player looking to go overseas.

Of course, football would only be part of the attraction of living there. The French have produced arguably some of the greatest thinkers of the twentieth-century, have a rich cultural heritage, and I hear that the countryside is quaint, as well.

Rob, fyi in case you don't go there, the Yanks Abroad board has coverage on just about any of Sam's sons ever to step off a plane in a foreign country, so if you ever can't find it here or in a club thread, check there. Tons of useful info.

Supposedly there is (or was) a young man from Maryland named Carlos Parra playing in a lower division somewhere in France. He was part of the ODP pool... That's all I know at the moment.
