A) There may be a kabillion threads like this one here, but this one shall be mine and any and all are welcome to join in the wonderful speedy chaos.

Secondly, just let me say this. I download music probably much more than I should. I'm guilty. I do delete the sh!t I end up not liking, and hereby consider these situations as failed test drives. This is morally acceptable. The stuff I DO end up liking I more often than not go out, after being sure by sampling several other cuts, and I buy that record. Then there is the random stuff that comes from records I'll never own; like Two Pina Coladas by Garth. I'm not going to own a ********ing Garth Brooks album! But I do likey that song. This is morally shaky ground.

Furthermore, I think that ********ing idiots who almost only download their music are ********ing idiots. I hear all the whining like "pooooh pooooh, there is only crap on the radio, I download all of my music." Or, "pooooh pooooh, records these days only have like ONE good song so I download all of my music

You are all lazy. It is upon your own shoulders to seek out and find the artists, any genre, who are in fact not putting out crap. They are out there. Their records are available; online, at the shows they give in your home town, and many record shops not called Best Buy, FIY, and Wal-Mart (and often you can find this stuff even at these places!). :O

And 4) in this thread I will be updating everyone with what records I just paid my good money for. This is in support of the artists I personally believe not to suck. Some of them are going to be super popular and records that everyone else in the world either already owns, has owned, or has at least heard the music contained within. Some of them will be bands you have never heard of, have only heard a little about (maybe even here on BS where there can be found posters with every taste possible and with access to artists all over the world that others might not have access to!), and quite possibly never want to hear about them again.

In conclusion, I don't think I'll bother ranting with each posting on the pluses and minuses of the records I'll list. I'll just list them, maybe drop a word about the genre and let you take it from there. Sample the stuff, try it out for yourself by downloading from the most neatest, bestest P2P software you can think of.

But by ********ing god get off your A$$ and support the artists playing the music you do enjoy and find to be not of the same sh!t quality that is crammed down your throat daily by the same people responsible for Ashlee Simpson.

P.S. this rant is not directed at any one individual and for all I know any who read this may agree with me and do in fact support their favorite artists. That is great! Keep it to yourself.

Yesterday I bought:

Nirvana - Nevermind (a replacement disk as I only own the cassette I bought in 1992)

The Hives - Tyrannosaurus Hives Swedes who I have come to appreciate greatly for their rocking ways.

Sahara Hotnights - C'mon Let's Pretend The debute album from a rockin' girl band also from Sweden. The Donna's are indeed a poor man's Sahara Hotnights (although the records cost the same?)

Sahara Hotnights - Jennie Bomb the best album of the three, IMO

Sahara Hotnights - Kiss and Tell

Falling for all that Scandanavian hype you're getting over there in Norway, huh?
;)

But as long as you're in Norway, buy Cato Salsa Experience and Annie. Two Norwegian acts I'm fired up about right now.

Annie is hot, and Chewing Gum gets stuck in my head, but I do not intend to buy her latest album. Although the latest single, can't remember the title, is even more catchy IMO.

Cato Salsa Experience? Haven't heard anything from them yet.

The music scene here in frozen land is actually far superior to what I had initially assumed it to be upon moving here in 2003. In the beginning I was disgusted with all the artsy fartsy/whiney Euro pop that is blasted from radios everywhere. So I paid very little attention to the music scene here.

I am doing much better now after having put my ear to the ground and really listened.

For example, following the rockin' girl band theme, here in Norway we've got The Launderettes and Bronco Busters. I'm still not certain about Norwegian guy bands, but the Swedes more than pick up the pace in this area.

However, I do still miss music back home. I have very little clue about what is going on in mainstream radio play, much less more obscure stuff. I'm talking mainly rock, as we get ALL the latest rap and "R+B" crap here on the radidio. There is barely any American rock played here. Right now the big rock and rock related hits from the states are things like Linkin Park and Jay Z (useless garbage, IMHO), the latest Papa Roach is picking up steam, and other than that I am having a very hard time thinking of another Rock tune getting any kind of significant airplay here; on both t.v. and radio. Green Day is getting significant time i guess.

There is alot of boy band rock like Maroon 5 being played very often still, I don't like 'em much, but they don't make me want to vomit like the Rasmus.

So far every song on all three albums has been very listen to able.

Some goodies that stand out are: Alright Alright (Here's My First Now Where's The Fight)

Only The Fakes Survive

Hot Night Crash

I honestly like every single song on all three offerings. I had downloaded alot of their stuff and finally started getting steady paychecks again so it was off to the record shop.

Like what, Savan? Don't come up in my thread without contributing! ;)

The funny drunk is excused for the moment as he was obviously mistaking this for my Rum and Coke thread over in FFA. I hope he remembered to bump it up, even though he claims to not have had any R + C.

They are a kick ass garage rock band. Most everyone I've played their music for has liked them.

Yeah, but you sometimes you want something light and fluffy like cotton candy. Every year my geezers friends and I get together for a night of record spinning. The kids are banned, we get drunk and people take turns putting tunes on the stereo. The host has about 3K CDs and several of us bring things from home to play. Annie is what I'll be putting on, I guarantee you.

Quality varies. It includes everything from soundboard recordings on DATs in small clubs to microphone recordings in big amphtheatres. However, you can stream most shows to sample them, or just download a track or two to see the quality. Also, other users rate quality, so that's often a good indicator too. I've downloaded dozens of shows from this site and most of the stuff sounds just as good or better than store bought CDs. Like I said, you've got to poke around and hunt for the best stuff, but it's there.

Do they (the musicians) have products for sale to fans? Shirts, c.d.s, whatever?

No. The site isn't affiliated with any particular band, but everything that is on there is done with the band's permission. On everyband's page is a link to their official website, where I'm sure that stuff is available.

It's too bad you don't like metal. Norway has one of the best scenes in the world...
