Still probably the greatest record ever.

Absolutely one of them in my opinion.
I could listen to that last song for hours.

I went to see Hope Sandoval a few weeks ago. Colm was drumming for her and in between songs someone in the audience yelled out "When is the new My Bloody Valentine album coming out." No response of course. Didn't they actually finish it, but Kevin Shields decided he hated it and destroyed all the masters?

I believe he has recorded two separate albums, only to trash them later. He's a complete freak. It'll never come out. Loveless put such a large amount of pressure on him. How can you top it?

There were an insane amount of quality albums that came out in 1991 and 1992, and in my opinion this was the best. It came out my freshman year of college (along with NIrvana's Nevermind, Pearl Jam 10, Pixies Trompe Le Monde, Matthew Sweet's Girlfriend. Curve's Doppelganger, The Wedding Present's Seamonsters, geez ..... ), and my roommate and I would blast it to wake up in the morning and then fall asleep to it at night. I don't know how many times I fell asleep to that album. Absolutely outstanding. "When you Sleep" is the best track.

Wonderful wall of sound echoing the beatles "blue jay way" in places won't be long. Its too bad heavily glazed over lyrics with atmospheric guitar feedback and tremolo effects can't find a wider audience. I still don't know the names of the songs. Ride, Lush, Slowdive and early Verve are other favorite dreampop shoegazers.

Didn't Pavement's Slanted & Enchanted also come out in 1991? A great year for music.

Yeah, as did Massive Attack's Blue LInes and Smashing Pumpkins' Gish. 92 also had SOundgarden's Badmotorfinger, REM's Automatic For the People, Sugar's Copper Blue, Helmet's Meantime, Sonic Youth's Dirty. The Breeders' Safari EP. And tha's jsut the popular stuff that was really good. Yo La Tengo and Stereolab, among others, were quietly putting out terrific stuff.

And as long as we're mentioning shoegazer bands, don't leave out Curve, Swervedriver, Drop Nineteens and the Catherine Wheel. And erly Verve, "Slide Away" Wow. I mean, who remembers Swervedriver? I do.

Oh ... Teenage Fanclub. Not quite strictly shoegazer, but not far off. Everyone's forgotten Teenage Fanclub..

If you listen closely to the vocals you'll notice that they're not always singing the same thing. In a book I read about Creation, they were talking about how Kevin would record his vocals first and then make Belinda (she did the vocals, right??) try to decipher what he was singing and then record hers to be overdubbed. That way it lent just a slight difference for effect, since there was no way she was going to make out his lyrics with all of the production layered on. Genius.

They're still in my regular rotation of CDs I listen to-most often "Mezcalhead". They were totally great.

655321-Did you read that interview with Shields in Tape Op magazine a few months back where he spoke about the recording of "Loveless"? Pretty interesting-I'd recommend getting your hands on it if possible. I think it was the May '01 edition.

No, although I'd like to. I wish I could find my old Creation biography and post some of the things written about it, as it is absolute greaness. They talked about how Kevin studied frequencies and decibel levels and how they effected the seratonin production levels in the human brain. He literally used this in the live shows, and would produce just the right sound to create a "high" effect in the audiences respective brains. Fascinating.

However, he also tried to get club owners and promoters to let him blow Amyl Nitrate out into the audience via industrial size fans when this was happening.

Did anyone see the tour? I did. It was at the Warfield in San Francisco. And it was so incredibly loud. I'm talking ear-splitting.

Other than that, I really don't remember it being a great show. Kind of a disappointment, really. I guess it's because they simply couldn't produce those sounds outside of the studio. I'm still glad I saw them, however.

And yes, it could very well be the greatest record ever.

Add to the list, Primal Scream's Screamadelica, Lush's "Spooky", U2's "Achtung Baby", Kitchens of Distinction's "Strange Free World", James' "Seven", Chapterhouse's "Whirlpool" and Electronic's first album.

Throw in 1990 and you can include Jane's Addiction's "Ritual De Lo Habitual", The La's, The Cocteau Twins' "Heaven or Las Vegas", The Trash Can Sinatras' "Cake", The Charlatans' "Some Friendly", Happy Mondays' "Pills, Thrills and Bellyaches", The House of Love's second album, Inspiral Carpets' "Life", etc, etc....

most of those are pretty good albums, but I can't beleive some of the others that have been mentioned here, some of them are awful. My Bloody Valentine is ok, but I hate how Kevin Shields has something negative to say about just about every band out there.
