from the thread on Maxi:

SUBJECT Re: Maxi Lopez ... al lado de Crespo en el Milan?

Lopez, a target for Barcelona, has been bought by British sports investment company, MSI (Media Sports Investments), who have links with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

MSI are understood to have purchased the transfer rights of Lopez, and his River team-mates Lucho Gonzalez and Javier Mascherano for a combined total of €27 million.

Both Gonzalez and Mascherano are expected to stay with River for the time being, but Lopez - who has also attracted interest from The Premiership - is being lined up for a loan move to Benfica as part of the deal between River and MSI.

The best way I can think to describe Lucho is a poor man's Kaka. He has a similar frame and has the same type of all-around talent. It's hard to point out one thing that he does exceptionaly well because he does so many things well. If pressed I would say his dribbling is his best asset. Not so much because of great foot skills, but because he knows how to use space and the other players on the field in order to move freely on the field. He definitely has what it takes to play in Europe. I'd love to see Valencia show some interest.

he is a good player, idk why porto really need him with diego in the midfield though.
i would not say his style is similar to that of kaka's.

Why would you say that his playing style is not similar to Kaka's? I think that he has the same type of skills as Kaka, but not to the same level. Kaka is a better player but Lucho to me has the same type of game. He is mostly used on the wing but I think if he played in the middle he would be the same type of player Kaka is.

Hello everybody,

Former FC Porto coach, Victor Fernandez announced that Porto had bought Lucho González for next season.

I haven't given it much thought, but now there are rumours that Deportivo la Coruña is also interested. So apparently Porto hasn't locked the deal yet.

Anyone of you have heard about this? And also, what type of player is Lucho González and do you think he can make it in Europe?

Thank you for your time

he's a class player, usually plays left-midfield. V good passer & can score goals. Not v quick though so not sure how he'd do in Europe, probably better suited to Portugal than England. River will be sorry to lose him, was signed from Huracan where he made his pro debut (I think)

Actually, I think Lucho would do splendidly in England. He really reminds me of Frank Lampard.

He was finally sold to Porto for six million euros. Another Argentine performing for that club is going to be Lisandro López (five million).

It was a matter of time before this was a done deal. The only problem I have with it, is that River should've at least got 8 or 9 million for him. 6 million? Cmon now. Lucho is worth way more than that.

Well, he's a lot more worth than the overpriced spice boy Diego, but I don't think it was such a bad deal really.

Lucho and Lisandro Lopez playing together? It looks like Porto is going to have one hell of an offense. I will have to find a channel which features the Purtuguese league on a regular basis.

Lucho, my fave argie player (actually my only fave... after Zanetti I guess), to Porto... damn, Lucho and Diego in the midfield?!?!
Porto is going to be awsome next year!

Actually i'm kinda shocked River let him go so early... I thought he'd be there a while longer. How much did Porto pay for him?
