(...if they exist)

It occurs to me that there aren't many head coaches/managers/whatever you call them that haven't had any professional or collegiate experience as players. The only one that springs to mind so far is Greg Andrulis, and I'm not even sure he hasn't played ball somewhere. Other than that, most of the other coaches in MLS have been players at some point, and it's probably safe to say the same is true in the European leagues.

In recent memory, are there any prominent managers that you remember, who have never played organized soccer?

Carlos Alberto Parreira was a physio with Brazil's 1970 team and never played professionally as far as I know.

Arrigo Sacchi was never a good player. He never even made
semi-professional level. He just loved the game and had a great understanding of it. He then went on to win everything possible with Milan.

He played in lower leagues as a defender and never amounted to much as a player.

He was an assistant to Robson, not just a translator. Mourinho was coaching in Portugal, I believe, which is how he met Robson.

partly true, his dad was a former coach but mourinho was never good enough to play pro football, but his dad reliased his son had a great understanding of the game so he hired him as a scout.
