(Looks around... shrugs...)
And?
You realize that Alan Rothenberg is a partner at Latham & Watkins, right?

Actually, Roth is retired from that firm. But besides the fact that he probably brought the USSF in as a client, why do you mention him?

You first. Why did you mention Russell F. Sauer, Jr.? I'm still wondering what is the point of the thread.

For those who aren't sure, Sauer is the attorney the USSF hired to handle their negotiations with the USNTPA.
That they hired someone from Rothenberg's firm is par for the course. Which means that somewhere Rothenberg is involved, at some level, in this.
Sauer damn sure doesn't come cheap, though I suppose the USSF would have us believe that it costs less to pay Sauer than it would to give the players the raise they are seeking.

I'm thinking more along the lines of another well worn sports phrase....

The only people who come out winners in the whole mess are the lawyers.

If you read the Sugden and Tomlinson book "Who Controls the People's Game" you will see all kinds of interesting stuff about the USSF, Latham & Watkins and the Legend of Rothenberg. Some things will become clear to you.
Marla Messing, one of the people in charge of the 1999 WWC, was a Lathan & Watkins associate when Rothenberg was there. Former USSF general council, Melissa Apcel, was with Latham & Watkins for years prior to her time with the USSF. I debated against her in high school and I have a very high opinion of her abaility. A recent Tribune article stated she has left the practice of law and done a career change, doing a graduate course at the Uniuversity of Chicago. Smart woman.
