Liverpool - Everton derby match years ago springs to mind. Must have been early 1980s. Watched it from the Kop.
Usual start: a 50-50 challenge on the edge of the box, handbags start swinging and next minute all 22 players are going at it, punching and pulling each other every which way. Well all 22 except Terry McDermott (Liverpool) and Gary Stanley (Everton) and they were the two who got sent off. Hilarious.
Both were known for being more skillful than hard and when the likes of Mick Lyons (Everton) and Jimmy Case (Liverpool) stay on the pitch and the other two get sent off well you know something is wrong!
I believe that's the same match that Mick Lyons lobbed it over his own goalie for a classic own goal. :D
Not really a fight per se, but the 'best' bit of violence I ever saw, was by a Velez Mostar player in a UEFA Cup game at Derby County in the '70's. It was a perfectly timed head butt that left the Derby forward (wish I could remember who it was) out cold for a long long time.

As more of a referee, coach, and player, more than a fan, I detest brawls and fights. In fact, I terminated several games after fights. I don't need them. :)

It's all about the severity of the conflict. If it's a little push or a punch, ok. If it's a bench clearing and fans involving brawl, then it's gone too far.

I don't know if I would use the word "favorite." I do remember one particular fight though.
Crvena Zvezda vs Dinamo Zagreb in the old Yugoslavian championship before the war broke out. I believe the match was in Zagreb.
The Bad Blue Boys (ultra group of Dinamo) were setting up their banners and chanting in the stands as usual. Suddenly (not sure if there was some pre-disturbances or not), the police who were predominantly Serbs, rushed the Bad Blue Boys. I do believe there were fights between the Dinamo fans and Crvena Zvezda fans. During the melee, I remember Zvonimir Boban, a young player then, rush a police man and exercise a fly-kick that knocked the policeman out cold. In Boban's defense, he had just watched the same cop trample a Bad Blue Boy with other cops. The act made Boban a hero in Croatia but also made his move out of Croatia particularly more crucial. It led to his career starting in Italy with Milan and a glorious career at that.

There were some bad blood between Athletic Balboa and Barcelona. Goikoetxea of Athletic Balboa had injuried Bernard Schuster in a match.
Then, Schuster went after him I think in a different match. It was a home match for barcelona. The fans loved it. But then Goikoetxea got Barcelona back by taking out Maradona.... a very serious one. he was out for many months. Maradona supposingly carried that injury throughout his career. A few months later, Barcelona met Athletic Balboa at the Final of Copa del Rey. The footage must be from the match. It was Maradona's last match with barcelona. It was an all out brawl.... King Juan Carlos was attending the match.

Jamaica v Mexico. Everybody got involved, players and coaching staff. The Jamaicans went off the pitch and got sticks and anything they could beat the opposition with.

A real hard man of the game - Dave Mackay got slightly annoyed at a tackle by Billy Bremenr.
Although it never got any further than this, it is one of the classic photos of the game (Alex Ferguson has a picture of it in his office). Mackay hates it, saying it makes him look like "Desperate Dan on steroids".

Yeah, I remember reading an article with him where he said that he had just come back from a badly broken leg and that Bremner made an awful challenge on the same leg. It made him absolutely furious.

shamrock rovers v Bohiemans last season one of our players left us to play for bohs (are massive enemies) the first time he got the ball near our crowd we threw a pigs head and four pigs feet at him. and the pigs head wasn't like barcas either it was raw, alot bigger and had blood on it istead of an apple, also our crowd wore pig masks with Tony c**t (the players name is tony grant) than one of our players got sent off for hacking him.
in injury time we were winning two-one. one their players crossed it in and it hit our defenders hip. . . They got a penalty for handball and scored. The whistle blew imeaditly after and our manager, asst manager, doctor, coach, and subs, aswell as all eleven players ran at the ref and started attacking him the guards had to stop them. than our fans attacked their fans and the guards! this sort of thing happens every time we play them.

He originally broke his leg in late 1963 and then in his first game back for the reserves the following season he broke it again. Spurs had major problems in midfield having lost Blanchflower (retired) and White (died) and as Mackay was being carried off he told the physis "Don't let Bill Nicholson.......... not yet". He said about the incident he was incensed for just a moment which was caught on camera perfectly. He and Bremner were actually very good friends.
