RAU SET FOR MUNICH EXIT

Bayern Munich defender Tobias Rau is on the verge of a move to Bavarian rivals Nurnberg after a disappointing 18-month spell at the Olympiastadion. The 23-year-old left-back had hoped to work his way into coach Felix Magath's starting XI during 2005 but the re-signing of former France international Bixente Lizarazu on Tuesday seems to have sealed his fate.

Bayern manager Uli Hoeness has confirmed that Rau, who joined the club from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2003, is likely to leave the club during the January transfer window.

"We have already told Tobias in an open discussion that a transfer was approaching," he said.

Rau's agent is reported to have re-opened negotiations with Nurnberg, who originally declared their interest in the former Germany international before the winter break.

im not happy about this...

rau shoud remain and learn under liza until the end of the season and serve as backup to lahm when he returns and liza departs...

the management want 22 players in the squad - thats a bit thin, but atleast go with one player for every position...

im disappointed about piotr leaving as well, and would prefer it if we got rid of one or two of the older central defenders and midfielders instead, this summer...

maybe one of the strikers too...

it's ok, we cut the squad down to 22 but Bayern will promote some youngster to the senior team. I think it's a good tradition if everyear we bring in 1 or 2 new youngsters.

Tobias Rau is possibly the worst fullback I have ever seen live. He is terrible.

Rau probabley wishes he would have listened to then teamate Effenburg in Wolfsburg and stayed there. With lahm coming back he certianly wont have a chance now, its better for him to go to Nurnberg where he could maybe revive his career. he had a lot of talent and was highly rated, but now...?

FAct of the matter is Bayern need an answer NOW at left back with Brazzo recovering, and the simply don't have it. Rau is a nice young player that needed more time. Nothing new at Bayern... We just can't wait for Tobias to develop into such a back with Arsenal on the docket.

I would prefer he stay, but he and Piotr need to make career decisions. They may be unrealistic about their chances at Munich (which is a youthful trait), but simply put, they are not accomodating at this time.

Lets just hope they don't stick it to us in their new kits! We face Piotr in a week or two against Hamburg.

Exactly two weeks! 21st of january, only game on friday to start the rest of the season. and Piotr will propably be in the starting lineup coz Beinlich wont play due to his 5th yellow card.

how about Jen Jeremies. People seems to forget him, I think Magath doesn't like his style of playing. He simply has 0 match practices so far this season :(

Rau would eventually leave regardless of whether Lizarazu made a come back or not. Rau is what 23 now? Would he really want to be cover for Lahm when he returns?
Rau needs to think about bettering himself somewhere else and possibly fighting for a place back in the National Team.

Latest News on Rau:
He won't go to Nürnberg, coz Club coach Wolf changed his mind.
