Among other things in his tongue-firmly-in-cheek "2005, a year in review" article today.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A51539-2005Jan5.html

D.C. United repeated as MLS champions, giving Washington two championship teams in the same year! United's triumph was all the more remarkable considering it had to play its games on the asphalt in Parking Lot 8 at RFK because the Washington Nationals got it barred from the RFK playing field for fear it would chew it up with its incessant running around like dogs chasing their own tails. As a result of being forced into the nether lands of the parking lot, United needed to revise itsmarketing strategy when its normal legion of fans, the "Barra Brava," felt slighted by being consigned to Lot 8 and began calling themselves the "Brara Brava" and began supporting the Mystics instead. United finally turned to bench-warmer Freddy Adu, and asked him to rescue the team. Adu played every minute of every game and responded with an MLS-record 39 goals. At the ceremony honoring the champions (this year held in an underground parking garage at Staples in Chevy Chase) Adu thanked Frank Robinson for making this all possible, and wished Peter Nowak well in his new career as a toll collector on the Dulles Greenway.

I swear I really do like Kornheiser. I like his columns and his sense of humor but him continually taking shots at one of my favorite sports makes me want slap him upside the head and say "grow up jackass". And I am not a violent person :)

It's an insecurity reflex. let it go. He takes shots at everything. The Redskins, les Boulez, the choking dog Capitals... that's his thing.

Yeah..........

TRYING is the answer. Inane crap like this won't move him upward into the premier humor columnist spot recently vacated by Dave Barry's hiatus. Well at least he isn't whining because his bagel is stale.

Actually, I think that is pretty damn funny..

Let it go my friends.. It is what he does.. He pokes fun at everyone, not just United and their fan base. Get over it..

In the end, we all have something to cheer for while he pines for attempts at slapstick humor..

But didn't he used to be funny? Seems to me he's just trying to be as cruel and insulting as possible in hopes that he garners a knee-jerk reaction from some nutjob internet soccer fan. I mean, really.... Brara Brava....that's supposed to be funny???

dick....

oops, there went the knee

Kornhole will just never understand the passion we have for our sport. He's just completely ignorant when it comes to futbol. Even though he claims that he loves everything about D.C. United (yea, right!) Hey Tony, ever actually been to a D.C. United game????? Just what I thought........... NOPE! Leave our team alone as well as our fan base and go write about the stinkin "Gnats" What a putz!

Jesus Herbert Walker Christ people, you need to get a grip. So he made a little fun of us, unlike say, talking about the one and done Nationals with some real venom.

Besides, all you have to remind him is this:

United: 42 goals
Redskins: 26 touchdowns

Who has the better offense?

Dude, it's the offseason. Do you really expect people to stay mum on the subject? Besides, Kornhole bashing is a time honored tradition on these boards. F him and his billygoat. :D

I for one used to really like Kornheiser's columns but I find they have gotten worse over the years.

But having said that, I think any press even this tongue-in-cheek column is good for United. Heck its off season and United are mentioned in the Post by someone other than Goff.

I know he hits on a couple of sore subjects but his one "prediction" of Adu scoring 39 goals is well, obviously wrong, but if it did happen I wouldn't complain :D

Jeebus, what an annoying article. Aside from the weak attempt at United bashing, the whole column just reeks of forced "humor".

Oh the Great Kornholio has spoken... yet another ill fated attempt at humor and bashing the best sports team in DC not to mention the most storied MLS franchise. Thanks for the free press butt wipe!

Holy crap people - get off your stinking high horses.

A few things come out in the article.

1) United is top of mind for him - if he really hated the sport or the team we would never get a lick of press

2) He knew enough about the team to write what he did - exactly how many WPost writers do you think know Barra Brava outside of Goff?

Jesus - it was an attempt at humor - some might aruge how succesful but some people need to drop this stinking persecution complex they have - no wonder its so easy to make fun of soccer fans.

On the one hand, Kornheiser makes purposeful digs on sore subjects for United fans. He knows quite well that he struck a nerve at the begining of the season by sugesting that MLS, DC United, and Peter Nowak all defruaded us since Adu was hailed as the savior of soccer, but was only playing 15 minutes of garbage time a game. He also makes fun again of the post championship rally, which set folks off just over a month ago.

On the other hand, Kornheiser mentions United as the second DC sports franchise in his column, before the Redskins, Nats and Caps. It may be backhanded, but it's a compliment. In a column meant to make fun of all the percieved shortcomings of DC's sports teams, the best he can come up with is taking pots shots at how Freddy Adu was handled (which by the way one a league championship) and how United will be treated in the co-sharing of RFK with boreball.

As fans, we should get over what Tony has to say. In the big picture, its inconsequential. He takes shots at all the teams, admittedly some funnier then others. But would it be better if he ignored United entirely? Think of it as "we've arrived" in some small twisted way. The bigger disrespect would for him to write his columns as if United didn't exist.

The bottom line is: do you actually think fans of the Wizards, Redskins, Nats, and Caps sit around and complain about how Kornheiser? Doubtful. And neither should we. When we do, all we do is feed the perception that soccer fans are a bunch of whiners.

Man, it's an endless cycle around here. Kornhole writes an unfunny article. People comment on it and the holier than thou's bash the people commenting on it. Why exactly do people need to lighten up? They're making their feelings known on a stupid internet message board. Nobody's written the Washington Post threatening to burn the place down. People are just blowing off steam in a Sloooow off season. I agree people need to get a grip, just not the ones griping about A$$holes article.
