The past few seasons Atlético Madrid has been more of a midtable club, but I have a question. Were they one of the powerhouses of La Liga like Barcelona and crosstown rivals Real Madrid are now? It would be cool to see Atlético up there in the title hunt and beat out Real.

I see Atlético can get the title for sure in the next three years. But it will not be easy. I will enjoy to see Atlético Madrid back in the CL.

Atletico Madrid could be punished by the Spanish FA after racist chanting marred their derby defeat to city-rivals Real on Sunday.
Real's full-back Roberto Carlos came in for particular abuse, especially in the second half, with the home fans continually taunting the Brazil defender.

what are the chances of atletico getting a forum under the la liga forum? or does anyone have a place they can direct me? besides the official website that is.

You could always start an "Official Atletico Madrid Thread [R]" in the main Spanish club section that this thread is also under. There have been a few threads about Atletico, but if you made a central thread to discuss them, you may get more traffic.
If you can get a large and unruly enough main thread like Depor and Valencia did, you could appeal for a sub-forum. Q

why not just ask a mod to add the [R] to this thread and go from there?

I'd just like to say that I had the chance to go to El Calderón this past December and saw Los Rojiblancos beat Depor 1-0. It was a good game, but ATM really should have made more of their chances! I found the atmosphere very friendly and fun, I was impressed by how many red and white stripes were in south Madrid that day. Sorry to hear about the racist taunting of Roberto Carlos. But it was probably due to Ultras AtM-- I saw some of them walking around while I was at the game, looking like they just wanted to cause trouble.
Just my $.02.
